Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional.

That was the point, he that knows nothing knows everything, it's why your self proclaimed pedestal on high could be taken down a little.

I taught my daughters to drive, and one day I was riding and my older daughter was driving, and we got behind some older driver who was driving along very slowly. she said "If I ever start driving like that, just take my license away from me".

And the Japanese say:

If you are in a hurry make a detour.

I think not grow old, but grow up.

Sometimes White Knighting is the only way to speak to the so called MIGHTY, AKA NPD.

Blag, son I could really give a fuck about you, seriously. If childishness is all you got, have at it. Just don't ever believe for a moment, that you could ever pigeon-hole me. You don't have a clue, my boy. I have more pain in my pinky than you have in your whole body. So whatever makes you feel good huh, son! Isn't that all that matters?

I almost died at 4 at the hands of a father, I guess I should have, then I wouldn't have to bear the twistedness of similar minded fools. No, you don't have a clue!

Hmm then point made, I agree.

Shoot your daughter. ;)

I will stridently and bombastically disagree with this though, have you seen mankind lately? Mandatory only if they could ever learn anything. I include myself in that previous remark of course, but then I am a product of the Blind Watchmakers genetics. You can be damn sure any belief system can't condone what he or she or them have created, at least not yet...

Years ago I heard someone give this advice, "Don't get old, but then what's the alternative?"

I've heard that we are most attracted to the genetic pools that are most different from our, in order to avoid too similar genes. Different genes and accordingly different immune systems, in a combination - in a child - create a very strong and resistant genetic pool. If I have the same weaknesses like you, our child is going to have the same weaknesses doubled. I, coming from one environment, have resistance to other viruses that you, coming from a different place. Our kid gets resistance to all involved viruses. It's survival. In order to enable the best possible reproduction, the nature made the ones with the most distant immune system - the most "attractive" to us. Cultural differences play no role here, as it is purely an evolutionary issue.

And can you confirm from your personal experience that you are most attracted to exotic men ?
Like the Australian Aboriginies for instance ?

Because I look for someone like myself, more or less.
I need to understand a person and this requires the same cultural background.

There's a difference between the physical and the mental. Physically, difference if the best fit for a couple, while mentally, sameness is best. At least for any sound healthy relationship, with the least friction and pitfalls.

But it´s difficult to get both: physical difference and mental sameness.

And: why not mental difference to make the relationship exiciting and challenging instead of boring ? Some would argue.

Absolutely not. But it depends on what you mean by opposite.

It is often the case that people too alike do not work well as a team; as in sharing the same skills often lack a sufficient variety of skills to cope with all they need to.
But opposites never work.
What is best is complimentary skills. Jack sprat could eat no fat, his wife could eat no lean. Together they scoffed the platter clean.

Liking fat on the one hand and lean on the other is not opposite. Opposite might be not liking meat. Skills that enhance the other's skills give the coupling a greater range of abilities.

Obviously, if man is the opposite of woman, then its true. But in reality the opposite of a man, is not a man, or a dead man, - well it depends on the context. There are no natural opposites, only subjective ones.

I remember an Italian man complaining on a forum about his wife from Brazil.
She was in a party mood all the time and did not think about where the money came from .

I don´t know if we can generalize.

I thought Italians were easy-going themselves but this might be a stereotype.
In a novel by Mr Sappa, which takes place in Sardinia and which is at present read on the German radio in installments, Don Sebastiano is very thrifty, and his wife Donna Vincenza too.

On the other hand, an English police detective in a novel by Oliver Harris drinks so much all the time that he must be walking around with at least 10 promilles. It is amazing.

There was a big issue all over the press a few years ago; Italian women were looking for British men because they were fed up with Italian ones.
Apparently Italian mothers were too motherly and would allow their sons too much of their time. ~The men stayed boys and would often go home each week with their dirty washing to their possessive mothers. When, (if), they married they would transfer their boyish devotion from their mother to their wives, or worst still, the mother and new daughter-in-law would be in a vicious competition for their son's attentions.
Anyway several Dating agencies in Italy made lots of money finding beautiful Italian women British husbands who were more modern, and mature.

Sometimes cultures can be complimentary.

after 26 years I can say that (political and class)opposites makes both lives richer, and widens both's views, but it creates a h*ll of a lot of quarreling.

And who do English ladies marry then ? Italian men ?

I think that at least one person should speak his native language. If both speak a foreign language then the communication and intimacy cannot be strong enough.
If both speak a foreign language there will be lots of misunderstandings and this will lead to estrangement.
