I'm an atheist and I don't mind if someone says 'Merry Christmas'. I find 'happy holidays' offensive because it epitomises the PC thought-police movement that's swept the world. How about not offending me then? This is what I mean by political correctness. Who gets to decide who should or shouldn't be allowed to be 'offended'? Don't you think it's patronising to assume certain groups of people have such delicate feelings that they can't handle anyone saying 'merry christmas' to them? So what do we have now? A bland, meaningless, PC term that grates on the nerves and makes PC twats feel all fuzzy and virtuous. AAAGH! BTW, I've never in my life said 'merry christmas' as a greeting. I think the first time I've 'said' it is on here. When someone says it to me I usually say 'you too'. I can't actually bring myself to say it because it feels silly, and to be honest I don't know what it means, if anything. 'I hope you have a jolly old time at christmas'? 'Christmas is such a happy time, don't you agree?'? 'I hope christmas will be a pleasant day for you'? 'Christmas is fun'?.... (Is that jolly enough for you?)
Plus, 'christmas' has nothing to do with christianity anyway. It's a pagan festival, so the laugh is on all you PC twats who think saying 'merry christmas' is going to offend muslims, jews or any other group that isn't allowed to be 'offended' just because they aren't christians. 'Xmas' would be more appropriate when you think about it.

Awesome, I'm really glad to share them with you, as I have been listening to them since the mid 80's, at least the first one, while anxiously awaiting the next, especially around the holidays. Obviously, not as complicated as Bach, Beethoven, or Mozart. Though rather beautiful in their simplicity, a testament to the power of the space prior to the notes, as it hangs, full of reverberation, the piano ringing out, in anticipation of what's to follow, that silence, is indeed golden.

FYI, everyone, I'm one of those Christians who tries to remember and celebrate Christmas for the real reason that we are supposed to celebrate Christmas. And, yes, I know it coincides with a Pagan celebration and was adopted by Christians to cash in on the time when everyone was celebrating, and the real date Of Jesus's birth is unknown for sure. But I just don't care about all that, to me Christmas is a time to remember and celebrate, just because. It's a time when most reasonable people can be happy just to be happy with others, no matter what they believe. So Jewish, Muslim, Hindi, Buddhist, MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR, WHETHER YOU ARE OR NOT.

The story of Ebenezer Scrooge appears to be that of a man who undergoes a life altering experience that changes him from a mean spirited miser to a loving and generous person. But what really changed him? First visited by the spirit of his dead partner and the prospect of sharing his fate in the afterlife, he passes it off as 'something I ate'. He sees what he has lost in the past and shuts it out, the present only moves him a little at the prospect of Tiny Tim dying. Visions of the future sale of his possessions only anger him, and means little, only when faced with the prospect of his own imminent death does his strong sense of self-preservation kick in and he adopts a changed attitude towards others. His subsequent actions are primarily to save his own life. However as a shrewd business man I'm sure he would discover that his new found benevolence had it's rewards. He may have taken smaller profits on each deal but his new manner would have lead to many more deals, as he would have been much more pleasent to work with. While this would lead to more paperwork his clerk, with a substantial raise and much gratitude, would work even harder to keep up and please his boss. All in All Scrooge's business would have improved and he would have learned that by giving a little he got much more in return. He would have become even more wealthy, just by feigning good will and a loving nature.

If you are making a feeble attempt at comparing me with Scrooge, then you are way off mark. I like xmas although it always makes me quite sad. It must be horrible for all the children who get nothing, with all the commercialism and constant bombardment of advertising, and there are a lot of those who will always get nothing, and not necessarily because they are poor either. Even the poorest people can find some way to make sure their children get something. Strangers often smile at me and say hello. I do it back.
