Metaphysics: branch of philosophy concerned with the ultimate nature of existence. It perpetuates the Metaphysics of Aristotle, a collection of treatises placed after the Physics [Gr. meta-physics=after physics] and treating what Aristotle called the First Philosophy. The principal area of metaphysical speculation is generally called ontology and is the study of the ultimate nature of being.
Those last words, 'ultimate nature of being', resonate for me and I wonder why..? Why are some of us drawn to model railroading while another is drawn to becoming a doctor of veterinarian medicine? What is it about metaphysics that has pulled me in for so long?
The ultimate nature of being. I love saying that. Not reaching the end or attaining the egg of a golden goose, but the journey of discovery of what this life thing really is... and why it is... Most have little use for such time stealers... many quiet moments of deep thinking, observing, assimilating all to see if all the dots can be connected... weaving the blanket of understanding to warm us from the cold fear of not knowing.
Politicians don't have time or interest in those questions... neither do priests. Doctors, CEO's... they have different interests. The list of differences is as long as action itself.
But all these differences are what makes us one. One pulse in the universe, one nature, one being within one operating in a harmony that mind ceaselessly wants to understand. It's a love relationship that can transcend what we ever knew as reality. Nature of being. We all 'be'... buzzing around in search of some thing or things that we identify with... that we can connect to to further know our potential. We have all we need to know within to sculpt ourselves into what we shall become. It's a matter of acceptance of ourselves.
Accepting ourselves is so seemingly easy - just accept what we are. But mind has made it so complex... with our languages, our theories and philosophies, our interests, likes and dislikes, attachments and loneliness... we are complex and our complexities create levels of confusion and chaos as it does beauty and mystery in this life of duality. But there is a point within duality where perfect balance exists... the nature of all being, always present always here, now.
"How now brown cow..."
"How Now! brown cow."
'Now' is only the finger pointing... not what the finger is pointing at. To think about now is to leave the now. Now is not then, now is not when... not even Now is now for now has left Be hind. Now is word. Now is non-changing eternal presence... four words attempting to pacify mind to connect the dots leading to a place that is without beginning, without ending. Don't look for the word 'now' for that is illusion. Look through now to experience the presence residing within now. Use instinct, use surrender, use abandon, use trust to attain the infinite presence within reflecting through the prism of your authenticity to absorb your individuality - the nature of being
Nature is natural. It's within Nature to be. We are all Nature. We are all Being. Being is not all doing, but absorbing the energy of existence until enough energy ignites our awareness of understanding, accepting, becoming whole within the one where there is no finger pointing, no mind questioning, no leaders, no followers... only bliss of being - wholly holy.

I love this.
Well written. Great topic...you actually posted something deeply philosophical here. That is sooooo unusual for this site.
Depth and a view of a larger landscape. Well done.

Henry, note (again) what I've written, please -henry quirk wrote:"Being is not all doing"
Sorry but 'doing' is exactly what being (living) is about.
Sit on your ass contemplating and see how much food that puts in your belly.

"We are all Nature"
Yes, and nature is organic, violent, and active.
"Being is not ALL doing."
I repeat to those who would prefer to brush this line into the dustbin - "Being is not ALL doing."
If you've never had the pleasure of "doing nothing" I'd find you to be a highly wound up individual that is unable to sit still and longer than you'd take to defecate. And anything seen as relaxing or kicking back...? Forget it! Guilt constantly haunts you and you'll do anything to outrun that bug-a-boo that won't give you a full night's sleep.

Henry, I was going to blow this comment off but really! I don't think you comprehend _
We, the hu'man species, Homo Sapiens, is from and exists thanks to "Nature" as every living entity aboard this Spaceship Earth are. Not only are we hu'mans natural entities but such is all life. But you know that. So why the ignorant comment..? Come on Henry, you needn't be quirky with me."We are all Nature"

Re: Ontological Orchestrations
Your orchestra needs to get its instruments tuned, then do some practice. Let's not forget the obviously absent conductor-- unless you love the discordant, dissonant music of the modern "university music-perfessor" era, as would be my guess.mtmynd1 wrote:Ontological Orchestrations

BTW, a serious student of metaphysics might refer to the subject as "antephysics," even without knowing a word of the Greek language. Do you know why? Or, does anyone?
IMO your final paragraph could be the most concise presentation of meaningless religious tripe ever assembled. Congratulations.

Indeed, Greylorn, it is your opinion. Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. Why do you choose to show yours within a public forum?Greylorn Ell wrote: IMO your final paragraph could be the most concise presentation of meaningless religious tripe ever assembled. Congratulations.

Re: Ontological Orchestrations
True, but in Aristotle's case ontology was also the study of the natural sciences. It is the study of"ultimate being" as much as it is the study of the natural world. Aristotle is attempting to reconcile a world of change with the 'world' of the unchanging. Assuming there exists somewhere some type of unchanging reality. Blame Plato for that bit.mtmynd1 wrote:

I am guessing it has something to do with a study that existed before science. That is to say, modern science, rather than natural science.Greylorn Ell wrote:
