Weather forecasting

How does science work? And what's all this about quantum mechanics?

Weather forecasting

Post by Philosophy Explorer »

There are many components to measuring the weather: precipitation, temperature, barimetric pressure, humidity, etc. I keep hearing about how weather forecasting keeps improving and is expected to keep on improving, maybe down to the level of the neighborhood.

First question would be how does one get a weighted average of all these different components to give a meaningful representation of the weather? Then with the new information, if it occurs (neighborhood level), how would one give a forecast for say one block as opposed to another?

That's just a sampler as what you may possibly expect. It seems that meteorologists are extending themselves too far. What do you think about this?
