Help needed: Ancient philosophy bachelor thesis

Post by Caliban »

Hello all,

I am about to choose a topic for my final bachelor thesis and it must be related to ancient Greek philosophy.
I want it to be something about Plato, but I just can't choose a suitable, interesting thesis or problem ...

Can you help me by sharing what about his ideas has made lasting impression on you or what you have seen as a problem/mistake in his thinking and is worth dwelling on?
Or any concept/theory from Plato that you think would be interesting to examine in ~60-80 pages work?

P.S. It must not be a theme that completely pertains the realm of logic or ethics, aesthetics - rather a philosophy or history of philosophy theme.

Thank you for your time, I will be waiting for your answers.

You can try to check out this guy for inspiration: https://www.youtube.com/user/gbisadler

He deals with several themes in Plato, so you could take on one of them and focus in on it and see if that's a problem you'd like to investigate ;)

Here's a direct link to his Plato playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... 49D5B07340 consisting of 46 videos, so that's a lot of subjects!

If you are gong to talk about an historical theme in philosophy then a theory of universals is always a good one to resurrect. You can examine Plato's theory of Forms, ethics, logic, politics, etc. as a theory of universals.

I wrote my undergraduate thesis, in part, on the Theaetetus. It covers most of the major themes of modern epistemology from Descartes onward, amazingly enough.
