I have been asking people: When you hear the word “ethics” what do you think of? The following are some of the responses I got:
Don’t lie. Don’t cheat. Don’t put your nose where it doesn’t belong. Be honest. Be fair. Be responsible and accountable. Take responsibility for yourself rather than being some kind of parasite. Do what you have contracted to do. Aim for excellence. Give – at least – a little more than what you take. Contribute to your community. Don’t manipulate others or attempt to exert power over them.
Live well, and help others do the same …until everyone does.
Engage in moral growth with the aim of being and becoming all that you can be. Rise above temptations. Think long-term as well as short-term.
What say you? Do you have anything to add?
WHAT DOES ETHICS MEAN TO YOU?
WHAT DOES ETHICS MEAN TO YOU?

Re: WHAT DOES ETHICS MEAN TO YOU?
No. But that's what I reduce it to, when, as I often do, keep all other concerns of ethics at low priority.
Ethics has a long tradition of being many things to many people. I am a breaker of tradition. To me, ethics is science, ethics is mathematics, and in particular it is calculus: a study in the change of some particular fundamental variables of the universe.

To me, too.

Speaking of universal variables, if you haven't yet read it, see: BASIC ETHICS:A systematic approach.
http://www.myqol.com/wadeharvey/PDFs/BASIC%20ETHICS.pdf
Among its many, many applications it derives, within it, the three familiar schools of academic ethics. It integrates them within its system. Can any other theory that you know of do that??
Please give us your impressions of the manuscript. All constructive comments are welcome. As it says within the document, it is humbly offered as a proposed ethical theory, to be applied in practice by the reader, and it may do, until a better theory comes along.
If one has a better approach to the topic, then replace this theory with that new one, and tell us about it!
p.s. If the first eight pages are too technical, just skip them; the rest is easier reading....
Furthermore, when telling your friends and family about the concepts in the post "The Case for Ethics" put the ideas into their own words, words that they can understand. Suggest to them that they pass the ideas on. And I ask you: Does the world need more ethics? Does the case get to the essence of the subject? Is the presentation logical enough, and elegant enough, as to be persuasive? How can we make the topic simpler - so as to communicate it to the average person?
Questions? Upgrades? Comments?
