On a recent trip I noticed occasional deer grazing along the side of the road.



I waned, why are deer allowed to be hunted in my country?


In fact, the whitetail deer is my state's animal...and yet we have an open season on it.


The answer I concluded is one:


They have no voice; they cannot speak to us.


They have no value in a capitalistic society. Apart from their skin and gamy meat; they cannot do work for us. In that way they are useless.


Now, I look to America and Americans in this new one world wide company town.



As Americans, more and more of us are realizing that we have no voice.

Oh, we still have elections, but the things that are really important we no longer have a real choice.



As the average American worker we have no value in this new one world wide company town capitalistic society. Apart from regurgitating information and creating entertainment cannot do work for the world. We cannot create real things, items to support ourselves. In that way we are useless.





I see us going the way of the whitetail deer. Hunted to oblivion by the new international corporate machine.

If you mean the closed-shop union worker or the import protected manufacturer then I guess you'll be right. but lets not forget that this 'machine' is feeding more people and raising their living standards than has ever been managed before. You appear to be upset that others are now climbing the greasy pole of prosperity that you once had? Swings and roundabouts I think and be fair, you're still guzzling the bulk of the resources and appear to have time for leisure activities, so still in a pampered situation compared to most.

Sorry, I was using the term "Tree Huger" to refer to any of the "Anti" groups that oppose sensible wild live management out of ignorance of what they are opposing. Many of these people don't spend more than a little time in the woods and don't understand the balance of nature and how man has disrupted it.

You need to spend some time observing eastern US white tale deer. The smart ones avoid humans and survive, the dumb ones are the ones that run out on the highway or aren't aware of the presence of hunters, and should be removed from the gene pool.

Deer have instincts, and the most fit to survive will "Know" when hunters are present and will get out of the way.

High powered rifles with a telescopic sight make it easier to hit the desired target, so rather than wounding the deer and having it run away and die slowly, the hunter can get a quicker kill by hitting the vital area more surely. Very few "good" hunters will go for a head shot, the target is smaller and harder to hit. The chest cavity is much larger, and a relatively quick kill. That you refer to it as an "Impossible-to-miss contraption" indicates that you know very little about hunting or guns.

Without human hunting the deer population will explode and after the deer have eaten everything green within reach of a deer standing on it's hind legs, they will starve, along with every other ground dwelling herbivore. It has happened before when well meaning but ignorant "Bambi" lovers interfered with the professional wild life managers. And then packs of dogs will gorge on the dead carcasses of deer, and their owners will wonder why the dogs aren't hungry.

I rather think everyone does need to see that. It's part of the reality of our culture, of our lifestyle, our support for gun-owners and sport hunters.
I very much doubt most hunters are doing it for "intelligent wildlife management" or any other euphemism for killing for fun.
First we kill the wolves and bears because they're rival predators, then we kill the buffalo that compete with our beef cattle, and the songbirds that might eat the cereal crops or fruit, then we build sprawling freckled-brick subdivisions right up into the forest so we have to kill any wild animals that might injure a human ("Of course there aren't too many people - heck, modern science could feed twice as many") over their habitat, and then, well, we have to kill the deer (hares, seals, dolphins, turtles, moose, kangaroos, partridge, swans....) because otherwise they would overpopulate the diminishing and ever dirtier habitats. Anyway, it's their own fault for being too stupid to get away from ever-more-technologically advanced tracking devices and weapons; we never kill the ones are smarter than us. (plus, it's fun)

And, you know, maybe people need to see child porn, too. As long as we're sheltered from the bad stuff, we can pretend it isn't so and do nothing to prevent or stop it.

Good points. I am aware of the horrible things going on in the world, but I still don't want to see things that are going to give me nightmares for the rest of my life. People need to be a bit careful what they post without warning.
