I'm not one for stupid humor, I'd rather laugh with someone, than at someone, I feel It's socially disquieting, maybe it's just me?
Yeah I know what you mean, comedy is a very subjective thing; I for example as a child at school found nothing funny about a kid leaning back and falling off his chair, my first thought was to check if the kid was ok. While the rest of the class laughed their ass off. Comedy is and always will be different strokes...
Yes Blagg, finally something we can agree upon! Though I've had my moments laughing at slapstick! ;-)

Ah I missed this another one to look up, thanks T. :)

I watched Men in Black three the other night and was pleasantly surprised. Very clever movie, with lots of references to the latest theories in physics.

Yeah I enjoyed them all 1 to 3. Based on a comic book, which usually means they aren't going to be half bad although there are some notable exceptions...

How about "Gravity," with Sandra Bullock and George Clooney?

GRIPPING!!!

Though it's true that as to physics, Hollywood took a few liberties, when George's character was lost!

The Flight of the Phoenix (1965) that version only, not the new one.

Hardy Krüger.this movie is an overlooked gem.

The Caine Mutiny
Humphrey Bogart, José Ferrer, Van Johnson and Fred MacMurray, a classic gem.

Mystic River
Directed by Clint Eastwood. With Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Kevin Bacon, Emmy
Rossum.

Judging from your recommendations, I think you would like all three, (if you have not been there and done it, already)

I saw The Hill, a great classic.

and

The Master (2012)
Philip Seymor Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix
More of an art house. Excellent

Was a really good movie that well worth a watch people.

I think people are missing the point that although I asked for movies, there's a few people who probably haven't seen great movies too on this thread, and who's thinking about the lurkers. So it's all good. :)

Remakes are always a load of pointless shit. My favourite movies are probably The Big Lebowski (apart from the pointless Julianne Moore character), Being John Malkovich, and The Shawshank Redemption. Most of what comes out of Hollywood now is total garbage.

"Schindler's List," anyone?

Do you want to cry? Then how about: "A.I."

I've heard good things about Zombeaver...

The Big Lebowski is a classic. The dude abides. :)

I'd recommend The Cube, small budget movie, very nerdy about a group of people trapped in a fiendish prison of mathematical intricacy. Also Hypercube: Cube 2, much of the same only this time it's 4D as in time plays a part, a real mind ferk; I thought it was better than the original and the ending leaves you thinking about what sort of nightmare the world must be if they have to trap the cubes creators just to keep it secret. Don't worry that doesn't really spoiler the plot as you find that out early in...

I'd also recommend Screamers, everyone's seen all the usual Phillip K Dick movies, Blade Runner, Total Recall, Minority Report, The Adjustment Bureau and so on, but Screamers is something most people haven't even heard of, Stars the dude who played Robocop, very well done movie. And yes like all P K Dick movies it's about paranoia and not knowing who are human and who are not, either that or how the system is trying to keep everyone down, and you have to speak out. I'd also recommend Imposters, a film based on a P K Dick novel about man who is not sure who is really human and who is not leading him to question... Meh you know the plot.

What are the chances? Those are the exact same films I haven't seen.
For anyone who hasn't seen Baraka, there is a hole in your life. Pan's Labyrinth too.

Haven't seen Schindler's List, but I can't stand the way American films insist on putting on ridiculous foreign accents for people who are supposed to be talking in their own language. It doesn't even make sense. They wouldn't have been speaking in English, therefore they wouldn't have a 'foreign accent'. The only film I've seen where they didn't do this was Gorky Park. Excellent movie and a breath of fresh air for that reason.

One of the best films I've seen was actually a German film called Das Boot (The Boat). It was subtitled. Gattaca is an intelligent and under-rated movie.
Speaking of ridiculous accents, John Travolta's hilarious Russian one in 'The Killing' would definitely take the rotten raspberry, or whatever the award for worst is.

Das Boot was a mini series by the way in 6 episodes and it was brilliant. They condensed it down to a film though, the film was pretty good but I think the full deal was much better. I would recommend the original series. Very dark and realistic though...

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081834/

I loved Gattica, it was such a clever way of showing the way genetics do not dictate the worth of a person, and in fact the star overcomes his genetics ot realise his dreams. It shows how perfection is not always perfect in a very cleverly realised way. And at the same time it demonstrates why we should beware of choosing the traits a human should posses over those he should not.
