A liberal in my part of the world is a conservative. They believe in free market capitalism with a roughly equal balance of socialism.

I get it, a 50/50 blend of free-market capitalism and repression.

Roughly speaking. They tend to cancel each other out when it comes to extremism on both sides of politics. This is why we don't need to fill up forums with horror tales about government oppression.

Liberalism isn't a political movement. It's a worldview. You might as well say broadmindedness is a political movement.

Yes, that would be a reasonable way of stating the problem in broad terms. As to what a liberal does in a particular country is probably a different question.

I think that's the most important thing we can do, and I think Mr. Snowden would agree.

Yes, the more oppressive the regime the greater the importance. Probably works the other way as well. The less you see it the less oppressive the regime.

Government oppression rules the world, but doesn't concern you at all.

Elsewhere perhaps. But not where I am. Complacency may well end up being a problem though.

If you don't think you live under government oppression, that tag must have fallen off your toe.

Bob, you quoted Williams as if his opinions should be trusted and taken seriously. I think I showed how his opinions, on this matter at least, are flawed. I say he's wrong.

Do you agree that Williams is wrong? Because if you don't, then you support him. And if you do, I can't see what you hoped to achieve by quoting his bogus ideas.

As I recently posted, I pointed out to Williams why his position on a subject was wrong, but on his article at the start of this thread, he is 100% correct. If you want to read bogus ideas, check out the posts of you and others in this forum (with the obvious exception of mine).

No, he isn't, Bob. That's just your wishful thinking.

I don't indulge in wishful thinking. If you see any specific errors of fact, please point them out to me.

 That's pretty much all you do, bob*.

That's you wishing I hadn't already done that, bob, here.

Williams says ...
The 20th century turned out to be mankind's most barbaric.
It isn't.

* Here's a good example
