My friend, I am neither Left nor Right, so that's a cheap shot right there trying to divide people. Also, I believe you should look at China's system and how it is run. China is a Communist country that dictates how people will live (such as career), based on mainly how well they act and behave as citizens of that country. The people who fall short to the government's expectations in China are put in lower classes, and are forced to work in sweat shops and factories. Maybe you should research on that.
bobevenson wrote:What I am saying is that when we buy products from China, we are helping Chinese workers improve their standard of living while improving the standard of living of Americans with cheaper prices. That is unassailable logic that you and all of your liberal friends couldn't get through your brain if somebody beat it into your head with a sledgehammer!
You still got nothing to prove; just a claim with no evidence or data to back it up. Doesn't matter, because you're just a troll, and so I suggest that you either learn to conduct yourself or stay away from my thread. If you continue to disrupt and distract me and others from the initial subject of such of my threads, you will be reported.

You know nothing at all about China, my friend. Nobody is forced to work in factories. Quit talking like an idiot.
you will be reported
Yeah, go ahead and report me, jerk-off.

I tell you what you start making some sense and discussing the topic and I wont report you. How does that sound?

I unlike most people hate to get involved and not have a decent discussion. And I wont start by reporting someone who disagrees with me, because frankly that is what forums are all about and vivre le difference. ;)

I am interested in what you say but you need to keep on topic and not go off on some weird Tea Party tangent at the drop of a hat. Them guys are bat fuck insane, I am assuming you are not. At least I hope you are not considering throwing tea in the Ptomac to make a point about English taxes any time soon. ;)

If you call yourself "Bob the Baptist" and that you're the "Precursor of the Second Coming of Christ", then it doesn't make sense then to call yourself the "modern messiah". You can't be the "precursor" to Christ, yet be Christ/Messiah at the same time.
bobevenson wrote: Look, I'm Bob the Baptist, the new guru, the modern messiah, the wizard of Ouzo, and a prophet of all things spiritual, political and economic, so everything I say on these subjects makes sense.
Right off the bat, you're a charlatan and possibly unstable.

I think it is worth reiterating that point again in light of the above comment. Yes, the alternative would be worse except for the sad fact that these people are the victims of forced labour.

Exerts from New York times article January 26 2012. Full article can be viewed by clicking on link at the end/go 'full story'

Employees work excessive overtime, in some cases seven days a week, and live in crowded dorms. Some say they stand so long that their legs swell until they can hardly walk. Under-age workers have helped build Apple’s products, and the company’s suppliers have improperly disposed of hazardous waste and falsified records, according to company reports and advocacy groups that, within China, are often considered reliable, independent monitors.

I'm afraid you don't know what you're talking about. Chinese workers may have to endure harsh conditions, but they do so voluntarily because their alternative would be even worse. I'll kiss your ass if you can cite a single authoritative source that proves me wrong. And don't refer me to some website, spell it out and cite the authoritative source.

Bob, there is no need to be so cantankerous. No one is forcing you to reply to my posts.

In relation to slave labour:

Chinese slave labour taken from wikipedia. Wikipedia must be authoritative enough because you use it as well.

http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_Chin ... ve_scandal

With all respect I will turn down your offer.

I'm not talking about isolated events from seven years ago, I'm talking about slave labor sanctioned by the Chinese government. Let's take the example of Apple, Inc. Give me any proof of slave labor in these factories.

Bob, the wikipedia article is not just about 7 years ago. In the last paragraph:

"Although over 500 slaves were rescued in 2007, the practice has never been stopped"

There was a further report in September 2011"

"In May 2012, 8 people between 12 and 22 were reported missing, with 6 missing within the previous 12 months".

The estimated population of China is 1,360,720,000. What percent are slaves?

That's a good question. To be honest I have absolutely no idea of the percentage. I don't think anyone could come up with an exact figure.

My point is that the workers assembling Apple computers are not slaves, and can seek other employment at any time. [AMod edit]
