That is very relative speaking, a hip implant isn't as good as the real thing, sure it's better than a bad hip, why they in the first place make the transplant.

A whole lot of bad shit in confluence.
Energy crunch. Economic collapse. Militarism and consequent government paranoia: security, secrecy, control and suppression of information. (ironically, at the same time) Data overload: system failures in central processing banks. Infrastructure outdated and inadequate to demand. Political rabies: suppression of science education by religious factions. Management myopia: replacing clever, creative personnel with cheap off-site temps, drones and automata.
Climate change: mega-storms knocking out communication systems and electric grids.

That last one is a doozie. No government on Earth is prepared for the damage. Populations will be displaced and [mainly, but not exclusively coastal] property destroyed at an increasing rate. While global economics is in the stranglehold of mega-corporations, nobody's got the money to repair all that damage. There won't be any resources to spare for research programs without a military or commercial application. And those applications will have an ever-shrinking client-base, as more people become destitute.

I agree on most points and the timeframe.
For i used same in argument to expand into solar system before we run out of time.
Then , what happens on earth can be fixed from 'higher position'.
You don't keep all your eggs in one basket is a wisdom oft forgot
wisdom is never having to say " i did not imagine what could happen"

People NOW imagine government owns.. that nothing bad can happen.
it is to laugh.
people in general are ignorant and skittish.
just one good hit and they go ape hoot hooot and get primal.
if the system is shown to be helpless before events. people panic.

when you plan a career in whatever field and the field suddenly goes out the window.
people revert to apelike behavior.. hooot. skills with weapons and generalism become most sought after.
