Existence IS the essence

Should you think about your duty, or about the consequences of your actions? Or should you concentrate on becoming a good person?

Existence IS the essence

Post by Ansiktsburk »

Help me out on this, please!

First my idea, proposition, view... :

Sartre talked about one or the other perceding the other. Pondering upon that, I came to this conclusion. That living is what it's all about. This is what I consider meaning of life. The meaning for me, and maybe for others.

To elaborate a little further, this standpoint is not what I say stands for everyone. It could be philosophy for some, not for others. It's about NOT seeking higher meanings, about doing something with your life, about struggling. About not having too high ambitions, to enjoy the simple life. But maybe in a different sense than epicureanism, socialism or hippie flower-power. A more aggressive aproach maybe:

To get away from both Marx, Adam Smith, Sartre and religion. A possible good life for man. You work. You contribute. You do what is needed. And you strive with what you're good at. But nothing more. You do no extras, do not strive for anything but the quiet good life for yourself and maybe everyone. No overtime. Unless you enjoy it. You do not take short-term shit for a future supposed bigger good. But you take shit if it is necessary. If someone say "it would be good to" or "we should", you ignore it.

And for most of the time, you just do what feels good right now. Try to live in the moment. Enjoy it.

To be a little bold, I see it as a good way forward for the world. Yo do not get too many kids, yo do not travel too much or strive for big houses or so. When you go to work you do not spend time on dressing up. You're benevolent to all humans. The world could live a quiet, good life. You might say - ok, then nothing had been invented, we would live in the stone age or so. But I don't think so. Doing work is part of our well-being. Mental or physical. This could work. Nothing for capitalists, socialists, religious people, people who need to make others "slaves". But It could work. A world of smart laziness.

Second:

Is there some philosophy that this bear resemblance of? Some philosopher who speaks somewhat in line with this?

Exactly. No need to get out of the hammock. You're alive. Now. Feel good about it. Maybe go into the kitchen to get a drink, a coffee or whatever to increase your well-being. Just live, read a good book, do whatever makes you feel good.
