How do we go about justifying our ethical claims?

Should you think about your duty, or about the consequences of your actions? Or should you concentrate on becoming a good person?

Write volumes of drivel on the subject, or, as John Dewey would say: "Ethics is what works."

John Dewey wrote volumes of drivel? Or Dewey said that "ethics is volumes of drivel" in a sharp indictment of those around him?

The "or" in your post meant to contrast John Dewey's brilliant writing with other writing that is "drivel"?

Was this an OR-of-CONTRAST ?
Was it an OR-of-SUBSTITUTION ?

I get the nagging that feeling no one in this thread is concerned with the validity of their own ethical claims.

Nor are they concerned about yours, what a surprise, but only to you. :)
