From a cosmological point of view, an infinite number of worlds LIKELY exists within my own body. It may not seem like much to me, but when I pull a hair, entire star systems may collapse. I have the power to tear universes asunder and keep universes from being torn. Within me, the microcosm, I am master of all I can survey, and more, much more. Outside of me, the macrocosm, I am master of very little. Think of all the people, places and things, outside of myself I can't affect or only very little, indirectly. However, many of these people, places and things can't effect me either, or only indirectly/very little. What happens on mars stays on mars, unless it's a really big happening, like if it exploded/imploded. So when it comes to myself and everything within me, I am relatively powerful, but when it comes to others and everything without me, with the exception of my immediate surroundings, I'm relatively powerless. Why then do we spend so much time focusing on the macrocosm all the while neglecting the microcosm?
Vanity..?
Power
Re: Power
Who is neglecting the microcosm?
Science isn't neglecting it: immense quantities of knowledge are being organized in all branches of biology, chemistry and subatomic physics, every day.
Persons aren't neglecting what they can control: immense quantities of anxiety, money and energy are spent on food, physical comfort, health, fitness, hygiene and beauty... and that's before anything even goes wrong with the organism!
