Introducing myself.

Hello to all.
I thought I would give this a go as I have just subscribed to the magazine.
I'm starting from scratch. I know little or nothing about philosophy, but something has interested me to find out more and explore a few ideas.

Im not sure what there is about me that is relevant to post at this stage, but here are a ten things by way of introduction. They are the things I am fairly sure about at this moment, other things are aspects I am still pondering:

1) I am based in the South East of the UK.
2) I don't much like washing dishes up or mowing lawns.
3) I have a pet rabbit.
4) I like the smell of bitumen
5) I have been known to play the melodeon (hence "squeezebox")
6) I am wearing clean socks
7) I am at my most content when riding a bicycle
There is no number 8
9) Today I voted for a candidate in my local town council election, there were six candidates and I threw a dice. It saved me all the normal anguish I go through each time. To not vote seemed wrong. So I voted for the fourth one down on the list. I now can't remember who that was, but I have high hopes that they will be the ones to sort out the dog poo issue in the local park.
10) I am not on Facebook and prefer meeting real people, that's why I thought I would try this place out!

You could've said something a bit more... philosophical (yes I did say more philosophical mr. Wiltrack, I know you think everything is philosophy, and don't post a picture of clean socks claiming it is philosophy)

A dice throw over candidates is a bad start for sure... is there anything at all about difficult questions that interest you?

Dear "Voice of Time"...If you are typical of the kind of unfriendly attitude here then forget this!

I just tried to make a friendly and polite introduction, maybe a bit of humour. I havn't got off to a bad start, you have by being somewhat rude.

I have no idea who you are or who you think you are. So if its just going to be a place to chuck salvos at each other then its not for me. Im not here to be rude to complete strangers.

It's your point of view that I'm rude. I was implying that you should talk about your relationship with philosophy, your sense of humour was understood to the degree that I saw you were trying to be funny but not to the degree I had the feel to give you feedback on your clean socks... (btw, I also usually go with clean socks, but "clean" can be misleading as my socks are usually torn so a toe sticks here and there and they give me lots of those little pieces of thread that looks so unappealing when you take it off... in other words "clean" can conjure the wrong image, as my socks have also visited the washing machine, but in its haste my washing machine raped my socks and now their pretty poor).

Although I was quite clear it's not craigslist, you won't (likely) meet "real" people here, you'll (likely) just discuss with them on the forum. But anything can happen of course, so if you're positive and you want to search for "real people" here, then I won't stop you and if you find someone then that's good for you then I think it's great. You can get friends here that you take elsewhere, I got one and I nearly went to travel to her in the US.

Hello squeezebox, just give it some time and learn who to ignore. There are a few worth talking to. FYI, humor is difficult on a forum without tone of voice, gestures, and facial expressions, but keep trying, some of us get it.

This is the place for introductions, so squeezebox can surely be forgiven for not jumping strait into,"what is the meaning of everything", and besides that, I've never read any of yours or bills (the two most prolific posters of shit), and been inspired to think anything more philosophical than, "why did god make so many stupid arseholes, and set them on humanity".

Hello Squeezebox,

surviving harsh treatment should make one stronger, more resilient.

I call it "Elchtest" (elk test).

Elchtest is some kind of test developed by the car industry, to check if a new model of a car survives in a crash.
I am not sure if it is a crash between a car going at full speed and an elk walking out of the woods.

Trying to put humour onto the ugly is a line of experiments I am presently working with.

Taking offence and going away has not worked for me very well.
Has it for you ?

Are there any aspects of philosophy which you ponder over more than others?
What articles in the PN magazine would you like to discuss, if any?

As others have said, some here a a bit more combative and needly than others...
Some enjoy the 'gaming' aspect; this can often be fascinating and revealing. Other times it is a pain in the neck.

If you skim read the threads, you will get a fair idea of the scope and range of the forum participants.

Unfortunately, sometimes the forum 'garden' can be flash-flooded by individuals with a certain political agenda. Currently, I think there are 10 such threads and clicking on to the PN forum, yesterday am, all anyone would see was: 'Brit Dems' x 20.

Sometimes, less is more - you can more readily see the claim and argument. But then again...

Anyway, no matter - hope you enjoy your travels...

The Flash Flooding seems to be subsiding.
