Re: Facebook
I don't think that's true, by my experience it's not, and it brings out the better of people, and allows relationships to grow and be nurtured.Pluto wrote:The facebook is designed to bring out the worst in people. this technology is a monster in people. In that it in time seperates rather than builds relations. It is an instrument of power. So what?
Re: Facebook
I tried to join facebook but I couldn´t because I was unable to confirm my account with my mobile phone.
I do not have a mobile phone, should I have used a loaned one ?
I dwelled for some time on a national kind of facebook.
It was interesting. I could see pictures of people I knew long ago. It was very inspiring. But I felt like a spy, on the other hand. So I quit.
My friend spends too much time on facebook at times chatting with people. He is aware of the danger of addiction.
I consider a forum like this one less addictive and more ambitious intellectually.
Pluto, could you explain in general terms what led you to your negative opinions about facebook ?

Re: Facebook
In my opinion facebook is only ever a means of keeping tabs on people, and their associations, to use for what ever ends, which is why I never cared to join. Actually I see the whole of the Internet as the same thing, just not as localized.
Re: Facebook
I found it degrading and extremely depressing to use. Relations are perverted. The interface, how you move around, the options and possibilities all stink, too Pavlov. And misanthropy is at its heart.Pluto, could you explain in general terms what led you to your negative opinions about facebook ?

Re: Facebook
Speaking only for me: 'social networking' or 'social media' (including this place) is all for crap.
Words and images on a screen is not a hand in your hand or a hand on your shoulder (or a hand on your cock).
The net (on-going result of over-powered calculators linked up and allowed to run) is great for conducting information...too bad most of that information is poop.
Facebook encourages a redefinition of 'relationship'...'relating is replaced with 'showing', 'interacting' is replaced with 'acting', idiosyncratic affection for one is replaced with undifferentiated 'interest' in many.
It's a mook's tool and past time (says a mook).

Re: Facebook
Some people are bearable on the phone or on the internet, but not bearable in real life.
Meeting someone can be a question of degree of bearableness.

Re: Facebook
Have you met and made friends with someone on Facebook? I don't see it as a place to meet new people. Spy on new people perhaps, look through their photos, etc, but not meet. It seems to be made up of thousands of small groups, where each person within that group is connected to another in some way or another. So what should one do if one wants to meet people and make friends ?
Re: Facebook
My wife uses Facebook but I don't at all. I can see where it could be useful where you are already in a relationship with others and can use it to keep up with the latest news, but I do not see it being very useful in forming new relationships.
