I will not insult you as to make an argument that I am directly responsible for another's individual actions.
That was not the intent of the focus of this thread.
...you actually have to read the title of this thread that the original poster submitted.

We are, as a species, collectively guilty of atrocities.

I'm not walkin' the plank becuse other folks have done 'bad'
Bill,
This -- We are, as a species, collectively guilty of atrocities. -- has only one meaning...it cannot -- as a statement -- be widely interpreted.
Simply: to say we are, as a species, collectively guilty of atrocities is to say any one human can be held culpable for the collective actions of all humans, or for the actions of any other human.
I reject this notion as indefensible.
A self is autonomous or it is not.
If a self is autonomous then notions of 'collective' and 'species' are meaningless (except for the purpose of biological taxonomy).
If a self is not autonomous then 'self' is an illusion and K's alien emissary should do with humanity as it likes.
I hold that 'I' am no illusion...I hold that my failures are mine and your failures, yours.

Yeah, I guess it's just wording and our different interpretations.
I'm sure somewhere we have some common ground on this issue.
I will step back and allow the two of you to discuss.
