That's the argument for convergence, right there, what happened above. People becoming more alike would lead to understanding one another better.
If the whole world converges, fascism becomes impossible, as does every other extreme nationalism or partisanship. And, of course, as serious as the present problems are, co-operation would be optimal - perhaps life-saving. The cosmopolitan New World cities are making some progress toward homogeneity through intermarriage, but the far greater portion of mankind is kept behind borders, never mixing with very different types. International media and internet connection allows us glimpses of those do not look like ourselves, and teach us about other cultures; more people everywhere are becoming bi- or multi-lingual; international commerce allows us to become familiar with new kinds of food, clothing, vehicles and technological devices; quite a large number is affluent enough to travel. Oddly enough, the most convergence-causing phenomenon is crisis. With so many and frequent disasters, both natural and man-made, all over the world, emergency aid brings people together as nothing else can: we suffer the same way and help the same way, whatever else we may do differently.

So, that's the other side.

News, mostly. Tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanoes, nuclear plants, tornadoes, ice-storms, hurricanes, oil spills, wildfires, floods, famines, wars - every couple of weeks, something, someplace is hurting people who don't deserve to be hurt. A lot of it is probably due to climate change, which is a collaboration of man and his nasty little vengeful gods, and that will only get worse.

It's not the same genetic line. If it had been, we'd have cut off their heads before history started to be written, and history would be quite different. Trouble is, the same traits are on all of our DNA, and bits of it keep surfacing.
