I watched the film Patton recently, 1970 version with George C. Scott. He was bloody amazing in it.

Granted he was a "warrior" in one sense, but in another he appeared to suffer from an insecurity-superiority complex.

Wasn't Patton referred to by his men as, "all blood and guts, our blood and his guts". He lost many more men in battle than Montgomery, isn't this so?

Agree.

I used Patton as example because he is one i knew at least some americans had heard of..

I read his biograpohy . Have studied his record and commands. watched him in news reels. his swagger [you might say]
He is prime example of bravado 'at right time and place.'
The US had many commanders of far greater skill.He was reckless with his point mobile units
loosing far more men than needed to achieve goals.
When 3rd army skirted mortian and broke out in open country his division commanders were told to hell for leather.
Push those nazi bastards back to the Rhine.
Montgomery screwed up cause he feared defeat at german hands and was too cautious
Patton would have waded in 6 guns blazing.
You are correct he lost more men than monty
But he did move forward 5 times faster

The germans. well they poo poohed on allies in command skill, In 40 years of milhistory my top ten field commander list
is capped with these 3

PS I just watched Dr strangelove again. G C Scott is amazing. Like Mitchum. He is a force unto his own, style
and people think bogart. Bogart was nothingto the above 2 . All he had going for him was Lauren Bacal

To return to the original theme of this thread:

In an earlier post, I suggested

BE KIND TO ALL !

If a kindness was not appreciated as such it was not a kindness.

If you want to be kind and don't know the recipient that well, find out in advance how they will receive the gesture. Get permission to administer the kindness.

If you already know the intended recipient well, discern as sensitively as possible whether he/she is in the mood to get the gift you shall bestow. THEN : BE KIND. Do someone a favor. Be of some service.

It won't hurt you.

Do not over-analyze too much..... Just show that you care !
