I am just wondering what this article has to do with the theme of this issue, Philosophy and Public policy. Probably nothing; it's just a filler.

I wonder if boredom is simulated.

Aha, fooled you! This issue, unlike any other we've done so far, has two themes. Two for the price of one! The main theme, as illustrated by the front cover, is "Philosophy and Public Policy". The second theme, as also illustrated by the front cover, is "Appearance and Reality". The Simworld article belongs to the second theme. :)

Well, I can understand the Reality but I can't see the Appearance.

You think we really managed to snap a photo of Obama and Plato ordering a pizza for delivery to the Oval Office? :D

One of the articles in the Appearance & Reality section (the one by Peter Benson) argues that digital photography isn't really photography at all, because our ability to change digital photos pixel by pixel means that the essential connection between photo and reality which characterised earlier kinds of photography has been broken.

I was wondering what Obama was doing on the telephone. He is ordering pizza. But what is Plato saying with his finger in the air? Perhaps he is signalling that he wants only one topping on his. :?

Hence the pizza leaflet on the desk by the phone. I was wondering if we should have made that leaflet a bit bigger... Ah well, too late now!

It is amazing what we overlook.

Rick,
The word Pizza should have been add to the caption on this issue's cover: "Philosophy & Public Policy, & Pizza."
