Exactly what is it that you have against free-market capitalism, where people voluntarily buy and sell things to each other without anybody pointing a gun at their head?

I have realized long ago that money is just another man made weapon. It just seems a little kinder.bobevenson wrote:Exactly what is it that you have against free-market capitalism, where people voluntarily buy and sell things to each other without anybody pointing a gun at their head?

Again, what do you have against people making voluntary exchanges with one another?SpheresOfBalance wrote:I have realized long ago that money is just another man made weapon. Because the foolish powerful have made a simple worthless piece of paper worth more than things that are actually needed by humans, food, water and shelter, I'm sure they'd put a price on air, if it were possible. The truth is that only life and that which is required to sustain it is valuable, as is only the responsibility of that particular life.bobevenson wrote:Again, what do you have against people making voluntary exchanges with one another?SpheresOfBalance wrote:I have realized long ago that money is just another man made weapon. It's a pyramid scheme my friend. Any system built upon growth and not balance, does so to create the ability to skim the excess off the top, by those running the show. Free money!

Artisticsolution has disagreed with you; Arising_UK has disagreed with you; tillingborn has disagreed with you; Spheres vehemently disagrees with you while others have differing opinions regarding this subject -bobevenson wrote:Maybe if you guys studied a little economics, you wouldn't make yourselves look so goddamn stupid.
"Economics is the study of how people choose to use resources." - American Economic Association
"Economics is the study of people in the ordinary business of life."
-- Alfred Marshall, Principles of economics; an introductory volume (London: Macmillan, 1890)
"Economics is the science which studies human behavior as a relationship between given ends and scarce means which have alternative uses."
-- Lionel Robbins, An Essay on the Nature and Significance of Economic Science (London: MacMillan, 1932)
Economics is the "study of how societies use scarce resources to produce valuable commodities and distribute them among different people."
-- Paul A. Samuelson, Economics (New York: McGraw-Hill, 1948)
So, bobevenson, when you so emphatically state "economics is the allocation of property and labor, period," you have not given your idea much room to grow and perhaps include some other opinions such as these examples I've given.
Economics is a social science that is forever in flux depending upon the value given by those who play the game (and economics is indeed a game that has winners and losers in the final analysis). What you have stated several times. i.e. "the allocation of property and labor" is a phase of this game and not entirely without blame as your saying suggests. Property is valued as is labor according to what the investor can get away with, with the desire to make more money from the transaction(s) not always accomplished fairly and without disagreements. This is where economics as a social science loses its authenticity... science seeks the Truth while economics seeks profitability in order to succeed. Profits are unstable and subject to the needs and wants and limited by that criteria and due to their instability, often the game becomes extremely insecure for the players with a large percentage ending up on the losing side... bad for them, profitable for the lone winner.

Cecil...you are wasting your breath trying to reason with these types. If what Bush did to the world doesn't make them a believer nothing will. They will just continue to wave their "I love nixon" flags and be none the wiser.

The above quotes are meaningless. I am Bob the Baptist, the new guru, the modern messiah, the wizard of Ouzo, and I can tell you with complete and absolute certainty that economics is merely the allocation of property and labor, for all times, places and political systems.mtmynd1 wrote:"Economics is the study of how people choose to use resources." - American Economic Association

As the human species grows in intellect, so too economics becomes antiquated, one day becoming a mere footnote in the human history books. As the only road to increased intelligence, leaves money, or anything remotely resembling it, by the wayside. You can jeer all you want, but mark my words, it'll actually be required for our continuance past a certain breaking point. It would seem you've chosen the path of the dinosaur, a hanger-on of a dying belief system, based upon inequality.bobevenson wrote:The above quotes are meaningless. As usual, you insist on mincing words and playing your little ring-around-the-rosie game. Economics, pure and simple, is simply the allocation of property and and labor, and it doesn't matter who does the allocation. You might as well take my word for it since I'm the only prophet in this forum.Arising_uk wrote:No, thats the economy. Economics is the study of economies.
