When (and how) something (or someone) is "good."

Should you think about your duty, or about the consequences of your actions? Or should you concentrate on becoming a good person?

Good. But the reason was to situate why I would feel a need to be semi-parental towards some kids. I thought simply saying that I had been semi-parental would raise the question why I would do that.

Do you have children? if yes, how do they relate in order of importance of things? I'm a bit at a loss with you because our philosophies are so radically different.
I have a daughter and gran daughter.. It changes everything.

Beware old men.. we shoot first. And ask questions later
I have a 15 month old daughter. Beware Fathers with young children, we shoot first and ask questions later too :p

My child is first. So in the order of importance, I place her above other things. I can see why you are less inclined to care about what happens to the world and the species after you are dead. having children can change many things, a major thing it changes is how you view things. *"when you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change."

*(said by many people, not sure of the origin, after examination I have found this to be true.)

It's not actually physically possible to hold ones child the most important thing, and people who use such sentences are not talking about real things. The word "child" is obscure, oh, I don't mean there's any doubts about what a child is or that it isn't something physical, but that you have your opinions about what the word means in relation to the rest of the world, and therefore, you can't actually say that a child is the most important thing and mean anything about it except in the sense of "my opinions are the most important". Your child is just the cover to the album of the things that you really mean and want to do something about.

There is only one real truth about a child, and that is its needs as defined in Need-Space, and only by seeing and recognizing those movements can you deal with the real child. Anything else is a fiction of the mind of opinion. Also, it is a fiction that you can do anything about the future, you can only deal with the moment and the time you are alive. Once you are dead, a hundred revolutions, wars and famines might happen, and there's nothing you could've done about it.

That is an interesting proposal, but you would be wrong. See, I believe our immortality is in our children. My child represents to me the future of the species. The evolving 'up' part. I desire to be a part of the process of enabling mankind to reach a higher state of being via evolution. To do that, is to invest in our children. Nothing can be truly 'known' about what happens when one dies, but in the event we follow the way of the trees, and our deaths give room for the higher evolved to live and reach new heights of understanding: There is no doubt for me what the seed is for.

Was the chicken first? And we are an egg? Or are we an egg becoming a chicken? Or did the first chicken come with the first egg? I don't know. But I do know that I am right now: a part of a miracle: I exist, and have conscious awareness inside of that miracle existence.

Because of my views, my child is more important than me, because she is the future, and her future depends on my ability to give her the right teachings, the right resources, and the right heart, to overcome adversities she will inevitably face, and be a part of bringing the species into an inevitable evolution: either up, or down. The trend has been up, so there is my hope.

See, you have to remember that last statement you cannot see without a child of your own: when you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

Remindes me of the great line from 'Next'.
If you can see/predict. then looking it it will change it.
And thus it is not what you first saw.

Schrodinger's cat. Superposition and one path.

O seriously how can anybody take evolution like that? "My child represents to me the future of the species"! WTF! "our species"? That is so remote from anything real I cannot fathom how you come up with it. There may be many ways in which you think you care about the species, but human emotions don't work that way. We don't throw our love to a species in general unless of course we have been harsly indoctrinated to it. I love humankind, but only in the sense that I love the human beings I meet. I cannot love those I've never met, or will never meet. That is another physical impossibility. I can of course be friendly towards the idea of human beings I've never met, but I cannot have any more real emotions for them than I'll have for a sad movie I watch.
