You don't understand shit.
I was way ahead of you.
Your "Chinese environmentalist beaten after calling on official to swim in polluted creek" is not relevant to the question.

Re: Can Capitalism and Communism be combined?
In summary, since communism involves government ownership of the means of production, capitalism, by definition, can't exist. And while you're at it, capitalism can't even exist with socialism, although people like Chaz try to make you think it can. Of course, Chaz has no understanding of economics and fancies calling himself an American from time to time.

Okay...just socialism then...I was just being nice and offering you a compromise. But now that I see you want one or the other...Sooooo..... we will have socialism...because I said so.....bobevenson wrote: And while you're at it, capitalism can't even exist with socialism

Capitalism has brought everybody in the United States a higher standard of living, where even today's poorest families would have been considered rich not that many years ago.artisticsolution wrote:

It doesn't pay for me to argue a well-known fact that may not be so well known to Europeans!chaz wyman wrote:Nope.bobevenson wrote:Capitalism has brought everybody in the United States a higher standard of living, where even today's poorest families would have been considered rich not that many years ago.artisticsolution wrote:

When all "well know facts" are things that only you believe, I feel not obligation to take anything you say seriously.bobevenson wrote: It doesn't pay for me to argue a well-known fact that may not be so well known to Europeans!

Hopefully, the following statement from economics Prof. Walter Williams will set you straight:chaz wyman wrote:When all "well know facts" are things that only you believe, I feel not obligation to take anything you say seriously.bobevenson wrote: It doesn't pay for me to argue a well-known fact that may not be so well known to Europeans!
"To say that "our society creates poverty" is breathtakingly ignorant. In 1776, the U.S. was among the world's poorest nations. In less than two centuries, we became the world's richest nation by a long shot. Americans who today are deemed poor by Census Bureau definitions have more material goods than middle-class people as recently as 60 years ago. Dr. Robert Rector and Rachel Sheffield give us insights in "Understanding Poverty in the United States: Surprising Facts About America's Poor" (9/13/2011). Eighty percent of poor households have air conditioning. Nearly three-fourths have a car or truck, and 31 percent have two or more. Two-thirds have cable or satellite TV. Half have one or more computers. Forty-two percent own their homes. The average poor American has more living space than the typical non-poor person in Sweden, France or the U.K. Ninety-six percent of poor parents stated that their children were never hungry during the year because they couldn't afford food. How do these facts square with the statement that "our society creates poverty"? To the contrary, our society has done the best with poverty."

In response to Bob's BOLD outburst. Could anyone please reconcile these two view points. As I am only a EUROPEAN I cannot do so myself.

and I think what your are contemplating is already working fabulously, in China, in America, and many other Western civilizations.
For the poor, they will live under the tenants of Communism. For the rich, they will enjoy everything that is taken from the poor. And the rich will enjoy it in any system they choose.
In summary; You and me will continue to be indoctrinated into the Communist ideology of less is more and the richest 1% can enjoy a larger portion of the fruits of our labor. Enjoy.
I'm not sure you will need a special study as you mention in your original post. You are the study.
Get in line & lap it up!
..................................................
Poverty in the US almost as bad as in North Korea
While there are five million in North Korea that face food shortages, the same number in the US is 45 million.
...................................................
The rise in the number of homeless and hungry Americans have reached epidemic proportions.
one tiny note; your signature, Shit could be worse. Well, not really. If shit could be worse believe me it would be. And even if you don't agree with me that seems like a strange slogan to hang your hat on. How does, Shit will get worse sound to ya?

I'm sorry, but I can't comment on something so ridiculous it's hard to believe anybody could take it seriously.

Re: Can Capitalism and Communism be combined?
The problem with many poor people is that they spend the money they get from the state for things like alcohol.
Would it not be better to give them lunch boxes every day instead of money ?
