Does religion make people more peaceful or make them more violent?
Throughout history, has religion made human beings more peaceful? Do societies require the "moral fabric" religion provides to avoid disintegration? Or is religion instead been used as an excuse to wage war, imprison and execute people, and to lend legitimacy to political domination?
A related question is how is religion fairing today? Does it make people more violent and criminal, or more ethical and peaceful?

Re: Religion is a source violence and suffering
Religion does make some people more violent but thats only when some men use it as and excuse to start wars and then from been raised in this society they grow to hate each others religion because of past war for example in northern ireland.
But if you look at religion it preaches alot of good moral values and if it modernized it self like the rest of society it would improve as a whole. The same problem religion has the governments round the world have the same problem its is man a corrupted it.
Religion is great idea just like democracy but just like each other greedy for power and money have corrupted both. And both have started alot of wars between them.
And alot of the rules for religion were made hundreds of years ago and are out dated and just suited the people of the time when they were made because of lack of understanding of how the world works

Religion
the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods:
You are forgetting the atheism/ 'evolution' religions (id more say cults but for the purpose of this thread will restrict it merely to religions)
Atheists worship 1) Themselves 2) A mysterious process that (obv having never been observed ) can turn non living matter into life through natural processes and (in spite of the complete absence of a genetic mechanism for doing so) can turn a trout----> brachiosauruses, t-rex's, ants, caterpillars, eagles, worms, rats, elephants, dolphins, whales, chimpanzees and mankind. The atheism religions (yes i know it is more like cult) are a moral vacuum void of all 'right' and 'wrong', 'good' and 'bad', justice, ethics etc. There is no problem with rape, murder and bestiality in the atheism religion. Came from nowhere with no cause, going nowhere with no cause. Atheism is the religion of choice for selfish, evil, self serving, sin loving, God hating people.
