You can get any alcoholic beverage 24/7 in Las Vegas, NV USA...and you don't even have to go to a bar or tavern...you can go up to the corner and purchase it at 7 eleven...or the grocery store if you want a specialty drink...they too are open 24/7.bobevenson wrote:There is not a bar or tavern the USA where you can go in and order a beer on Sunday morning. Maybe this doesn't mean anything to you, but it means a great deal to people who consider personal freedom that doesn't interfere with others as a social imperative.

Re: Everybody Pays Lip Service To Freedom,
I agree, but I also think that restrictions that enable more freedoms for each individual should be weighed carefully before being implemented as some restrictions don't benefit the masses and only benefit the few...usually rich people.Arising_uk wrote:No, you can't, as I'm a card-carrying British Liberal who understands that some restrictions are an acceptable part of the freedom for each.
I believe the majority of people are poor and/or middle class and so restrictions placed on doing business should be more lenient for them while remaining strict for the rich corporations...to level the playing field so to speak. I simply don't understand blanket restrictions. I think each person should be able to make a living without having to sell their soul to corporations. They should be able to sell their talent without having to fork over huge amounts of money to obtain licenses, patents, copyrights etc. Most Restrictions and requirements for business should only be for the powerful corporations who have the financial means and ability to take advantage. Most people should be able to sell their talent (whatever it may be) to the world....without having to work for the man.
I hate restrictions on the downtrodden...which it turns out...are usually the first ones to be fettered by rules and regulations.

Yeah, move to Europe where you can drink from the age of eighteen seven days a week. Or since you say you live in the freest nation on earth start a campaign to change your state laws. If enough agree with you I presume democracy will out.bobevenson wrote:Oh, I'm sorry. Got any advice for the 300 million people who don't live in Las Vegas?

Enland has the same type of oppressive restrictions as the U.S.Arising_uk wrote:Yeah, move to Europe where you can drink from the age of eighteen seven days a week. The Alcohol licensing laws of the United Kingdom regulate the sale and consumption of alcohol, with separate legislation for England and Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland being passed, as necessary, by the UK parliament, the Northern Ireland Assembly, and the Scottish Parliament respectively. Throughout the United Kingdom, the sale of alcohol is restricted—pubs, restaurants, shops and other premises must be licensed by the local authority. The individual responsible for the premises is known as the Designated Premises Supervisor or DPS for short and must also hold a personal licence, also issued by the local authority. Premises licences, in as far as they concern the sale of alcohol, can be categorized to include on-licences (allowing consumption of alcohol on the premises) and off-licences (alcohol must be removed from the vendor's premises and drunk elsewhere). However, these distinctions are not made in the Licensing Act 2003, and the position in Scotland and Northern Ireland is more complex. Many on-licensed premises also permit off-sales. ETC., ETC., ETC.

You should have read all of the topic on Wikipedea and you would have seen that it is now possible for a premises to open 24 hours a day and some do. But pubs staying open all hours decreases freedom for many, with the noise and disturbance that goes on late into the night
all the best, urban

You can control the noise, but you can't control oppressive government. But, please, get off the alcohol kick, for it was just one small example of government oppression. If you have any imagination at all, I'm sure you can come up with 10,000 other examples.rantal wrote:You should have read all of the topic on Wikipedea and you would have seen that it is now possible for a premises to open 24 hours a day and some do. You know, if you wrote in a coherent fashion, it might be possible to figure out what the hell you are talking about. "And what body would you use to control this boob?" Re: Everybody Pays Lip Service To Freedom,
BobE used alcohol as a small example, my response is in regard to all retailers, as this has become an important issue in today's changing markets.
Today, the retail trading environment is more competitive, this cannot be ignored. Consumers have access to whatever they want worldwide, online. There is now a greater need for retailers not to be held back so they can adapt to the changing environment of consumer preference.
Retailers should have the freedom to open their shops whenever they want to trade.
Trading hours should be fully deregulated, as this would reduce discrimination between retailers, it has the potential to reduce retail prices and most importantly, could create higher retail employment. Retail is changing and business owners have to change to to keep abreast of these changes, or go under.

As such I don't actually talk too you anymore and rest easy that others understand my point.

If anyone needed persuading that Mr Evenson was incapable of rational discourse, I think this should be proof enough! Those who have been convinced may like to know that the PhiNow forum software will help you to ignore every post he makes automatically.
