Absolute freedom is not possible on earth.
Some people try to get an illusion of it by taking drugs and they wake up in a gutter.

In a democracy a certain degree of freedom is possible and an individual can defend it.
For example you can nurse your fragile ego in your own home, without fearing that someone will disturb you or watch you, like in the novel "1984". This freedom is not granted without restrictions but it is granted to a certain degree.

Outside of your home one has to behave according to rules one does not necessarily agree with.

I'm talking about the government allowing you the freedom to live your own life as long as it doesn't interfere with others. As a small example, I should be able to buy a shot of whiskey 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year, no ifs, ands, or buts.

Drunken and vomiting people in public places, accidents due to drinking and driving, hooliganism in football stadions etc. do interfere with others.

This is good.

At least you are beginning to be able to speak about subjects that have nothing to do with the political philosophy that kept you in chains...

Good luck.

Alcohol beverages are dangerous and should be sold only in pharmacies and only to people who have a special licence for buying them.

A local sheriff could give such a licence, to citizens who have no criminal records and no records of being violent, disorderly and having a drinking problem.

A idea for new jobs in the US, actually.

Being merciful towards an alcoholic is bad.

I'm sorry, but you apparently don't understand my point. I'm not talking about the excessive use of alcohol, I'm talking about buying a shot of whiskey on early Sunday A.M.

Correct, so why should the government tell me when and where I can buy it?

I thought in your country its the State not the Govt that tells you this?

I thought you had the freedom to move State if you don't like the rules where you are?

I'm pretty sure there are States where you can drink to your hearts content at any time of the day.

Although I'm a little puzzled why you don't just buy a bottle and have a tot on sunday?

Government is government is government. I don't care if repressive laws emanate from the federal government, the state government, the county government or the local government. They are all wrong, absolutely wrong, and should be immediately abolished. That will be the policy of the American Energy Party (AEP) once it gets into power.

You being a dyed-in-the-wool socialist with no aspiration of freedom or human rights, I can understand where you're coming from.

No, you can't, as I'm a card-carrying British Liberal who understands that some restrictions are an acceptable part of the freedom for each.

You on the other hand are a solipsistic Yank Libertarian who thinks its just about freedom for yourself to do as you please.

There are plenty of places in your country where you can have the freedom to drink on a Sunday but you do not avail yourself of the freedom you have to travel to them.

You could also just buy a bottle and drink your tot on Sunday.

There is not a bar or tavern the USA where you can go in and order a beer on Sunday morning. Maybe this doesn't mean anything to you, but it means a great deal to people who consider personal freedom that doesn't interfere with others as a social imperative.
