Post by Lames AA »

Hi , my name is Lames! I've been taking two courses in philosophy as options and they have been very interesting!
I joined to know more about philosophy and maybe be directed in what to read next !

P.s I have a question and not sure where to post questions, i have posted a couple of comments but I can't see my comments on the topics , does anyone know why?

thanks

Welcome to the forum.

How about the lounge section ?

I once started a thread in the lounge and some administrator moved it to another section after a while.

Do you wish to share with us what made you overindulge in alcoholic beverages ?
We are all anonymous here.

There is a very hilarious story by David Sedaris about a mink who had swapped his pelt for a bottle of Colhua and a cat who had a problem with a bureaucratic mouse. They were all attending AA sessions together.
The mink was permanently naked, his wife had left him and his illegal business had been confiscated. And yet he sounded positive.

What to read?

Most people think philosophy is a thing of the past. If you want to know about the future, you'll have to find it, mostly in political or semi-political movements and the likes.

You can try surfing wikipedia for interesting philosophers:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_philosophers

As a Norwegian I feel obligated to advertise some of my home country greatest productions:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arne_N%C3%A6ss (founder of deep-ecology movement: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecological_self)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zapffe (his main article contains some of his more interesting ideas)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jostein_Gaarder (his world-famous book about a child discovering philosophy through a weird story in a story: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sophie's_World)

Then I'd go on to recommend some non-Norwegians:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludwig_Wittgenstein (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosophi ... stigations)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G._E._Moore (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Principia_Ethica the article is small but you should get the book because it's worth reading)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nietzsche (all of his works are considered great to some extent, so take your pick)

Here's an overview of more recent philosophy:
