ehm? jihad, crusades? anyone? when norway was christened they did it by simply butchering anyone who wasn't officially taking on the new religion (something which never happened during paganism). Not to mention the Dark Ages etc... the only reason religion hasn't had the same death counts is because they didn't have nuclear bombs, missiles, machine guns and so forth when everybody were primitive enough to kill each other over faith, not to mention there were a lot fewer people in the world and governance was less effective, making cruelty harder to enforce where it was committed...
