The understanding of a general phenomenon/mechanism

Hi,

I've been reading on the the idea of "mechanism". However I'm struggling to find references on the following idea:

"to understand a general mechanism, one need to consider a large population, and constrain the similarities and differences of each experiment/entities"

such concept is also part of the scientific method.. but I wish someone could help me to focus my research by giving me couple of references on the subject.

I'm not exactly certain of the question but you may check out Husserl, Merleau-Ponty, Heidegger, Sartre and Derrida...

there is a ton of political bickering between these fellows, but the foundations of phenomonology/deconstruction are there...

then again, it has been brushed by almost every philosopher since Thales
