Fear can be paralysing.... it can also jump start us into action.
There are different types of fear. Fear of certain things and fear of people. The most menacing would be fear of people. You may disagree.
I saw recently a program about the infantry and when in battle, only two in one hundred hit their targets, due to the fear of battle.
Fear and how it affects us

Wrong, fear is only paralysing. It's anger, hatred, that motivates people to resist. It's sadness, despair, hopelessness that causes people to flee away and retreat.reasonvemotion wrote:Fear can be paralysing.... it can also jump start us into action.
That's true, most soldiers cannot handle the fear of killing other men, at least not at their first battlereasonvemotion wrote:There are different types of fear. Fear of certain things and fear of people. The most menacing would be fear of people. You may disagree.

It sometimes takes a dozen murders before they become efficient killers of men

"I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain."- (Lady Jessica) Herbert

Re: Fear and how it affects us
I was thinking about the term "fight or flight", which comes into play when we find ourselves in a situation that could threaten our very survival. When activated, "the fight or flight response causes a surge of adrenaline and other stress hormones to pump through our body". The rational mind, gets put on hold as the person moves past that into attack as we see a possible threat to our existence, this reaction is opposed to the paralyzing effect. I think it depends on who the person is, as to which one comes into play in an adverse situation. Perhaps this is why there are different outcomes for different people in a same situation.

The antidote to unnatural fears is always Objective Reality.
Franklin D. Roosevelt was not kidding when he said "We have nothing to fear but fear itself." The other pertinent saying is "The coward dies a thousand deaths, the hero dies but one."
