I have read Kant and Nietzsche. Hobbs and Hume. Russel Confucius and the Buddha.
for is not philosophy the reading of other ideas?
Yup! And taking a philosophy degree allows one to read a lot more of them. Of course then you have to write about them.
One cannot have own unique ideas.. they are false.
Not sure what you mean by this? You agreeing or disagreeing?
You cant get a degree in philosophy if you do not
toe the line, like all ivory tower sects.
True but to get a good pass you need to say what you think about it as well.
Why did Einstein INFURIATE the tower. He was a pleb.
that changed our world. Without permission of the tower.
 Yeah! A pleb with a degree in Physics from the foremost Polytechnic in Switzerland. He didn't infuriate anyone in the Physics 'tower'.

Where do people get these ideas from?
God loves him. [a scientist and a philosopher]
There is no 'God' or at least none that are paying such loving attention.
I consider him one of the greatest human beings that have ever lived.
there are others.. and in time.. i'll posit them

Prill
Hopefully you'll do a bit better with them then.

I believe that, what a person says, in more important than, how they say it.

NO ...
How would you know?
Those philosophical positions are human desire. The 'degree in philosophy'
is granted in western academia to those that had them first. only.
Pardon?
I have them 'ideas' Yet i'm last. and cannot be a lettered person no matter how valid my argument.
If i falsified a dozen philosophical positions..[my last count was 5]
I still could not be lettered.
Knowledge went out the window in 1500 bc
replaced by 'system'

a degree in philosophy is like a degree in UFO's

Prill
Then being such a big-brain passing a philosophy degree should be easy for you and if your ideas are as you say then you should be getting a first. As unlike most subjects its very, very, hard to get a first in Philosophy because, in the immortal words, "Its hard to bullshit the bullshitters".

Take any art teacher and find amongst them a brilliant artist.
I fear the university classrooms are full of un-thinkers: historians of thought that have no talent for it themselves. ...
This thread is once again full of those without experience of what they talk about talking much about it.

Most art teachers teach the techniques and are artists themselves. Not everyone can be a Michelangelo and even he had a teacher. In fact he learnt his trade in an art factory. I know two brilliant artists who teach.
Still, in these times that piece of paper signifies much to the obtuse, unable to discern quality from quantity.
When judging and discriminating has become an insult and billions feel like they have a "right" to be heard, just as they have a right to pass on their inferior genes, the many require "experts" to guide them and tell them what is to be considered reliable and what is to be called "hating", "primitive" and obscene.
Not sure what you are babbling about now but in philosophy the grades upon the pieces of paper are exactly the judging and discriminating of the quality from the quantity. Apparently those who cannot achieve them are very bitter about it.
And what has philosophy become?
A casual, aloof, recitation and repetition of what an other has seen and thought, while, in the meantime, the "self-evident" morals and "truths" remain untouched and unchallenged.
If you want a bad grade for sure do it this way.

There was much to unlearn and relearn when faced with reality.
I agree with this but it depends upon the subject I'd have thought.

'The problem with theory is that in theory it works but in practice it doesn't'

'The problem with practice without theory is that when a new problem arises you're stuffed'

Suetonius originated the phrase Alea Jacta Est, which appears in Asterix from time to time.
He put it in the mouth of Caesar as he crossed the Rubicon.

I think there is no doubt about English being the best language to read Asterix in.

Great cartoon, shame about the films.

Surely my good chicken.

The Position that . Given total control of Wehrmacht. Without interference from the little corporal.
The OKW
Would have defeated The USSR by November '41. Or at latest by Aug '42.
Would you like maps and Unit lists?. Having spieled Barbarossa dozens of times before i wrote HSC essay.
Which was claimed as best Essay in NSW that year 1977.
What other result is there?

Then.. thought this is more speculative . England would have been crushed in 42/43
How unfortunate. [;)] Though really only speculative in would Kriegsmarine die to last ship to remove RN from invasion beaches.
Would Luftwaffe sacrifice 50% of its planes.[or more]. To get the army there. cause once there.. The Pz/Gren units would take it all.

Especially with such as the buffoon Montgomery at the helm of Her majesties land forces.

Prill

-----------have you heard the joke about El Alamien. Monty managed a win and he only outnumbered the germans 4 to one in Men and 8 to one in Tanks And 12 to one in air.
Not bad for a bankers army
good show.

I dont have a degree in philosophy because. I dont need one.
Its a hobby.
A degree in his hobby?
Unless your hobby is Miniture turbojets or some other skill that requires technical expertise.

Why would i waste years to justify myself. Being able to reason has no degree.
You can or you cant or you can 'poorly'.

And.. If you look you will see that nowhere.. In my replys. Do i make sly asides on you..
We could start with.
Well pommies like to whine.. that is their job. Les pommes. fruit of the dirt.

My great great gran da was Auguste Frédéric Louis Viesse de Marmont, 1st Duke of Ragusa . Of the Grand army.. We shall have our revenge.

No one 'needs' a philosophy degree.
But it is clear enough that you would be better off for having some sort of education beyond high school.

It seems to be conveniently forgotten that Einstein published his Nobel Prize winning paper on the photoelectric effect (amongst others) in the same year that he obtained his PhD.
