I don't think sob is misogynistic or a twit...although I am not sure the exact meaning of twit. I would say that he is patriarchal though...but maybe not in a gender related way...only in an authoritative type of way...meaning if Sigmund Freud would have been a woman, sob would still have held his/her psychology in high esteem as well.Arising_uk wrote: That he needs to assign gender to someone who challenges his thoughts so that he can consider those thoughts beneath him just shows what a patriarchal misogynistic twit he is.
But the reason I question the 'truth' of psychological findings is there is no empirical evidence of any real truth to it....unlike math for example. You can cross check math at least to see if your answer to a problem is correct. With psychology, however, the answer to a certain problem could be flawed due to the mental health of the 'problem solver' in this case sigmund freud.
I just think it was a mistake for society to have held his opinion in such high esteem when clearly most of his ideas where firmly guided by his own misguided thoughts and negative view of humanity. A view which may not be wrong...but certainly...statistically speaking....not right in all cases. And certainly, not correct when it comes to helping people out of the darkness of mental illness.
On the contrary....I think he made it so that mental illness is to be a thing to be prized. He made it 'special' or 'superior' to be mentally ill...by having a scapegoat for all of our 'bad' behavior and at the same time giving us a certain 'status' in that "achievement' that our minds can create by being mentally ill...i.e. "How miraculous is the human mind? Just look what it does when it has too much stress...it goes on to create multiple personalities, etc.Simply genius!" In other words....Freud made us actually like our mental illnesses...and more than that...he made it so we try to out compete the other in a game of...who is the most mentally ill...must also be the most intelligent of us all.
It's this topsy turvy idea that I find absurd. I believe it makes it impossible to ever get well...because the whole idea of psychology is based in the lifting up of esteem at all costs...even if it is a lie...even if it means telling the mentally ill person he is above the average bloke who is content with thinking happy thoughts. Not only that...but to point a finger at the happy person and call him stupid or naive, for obviously, only a stupid person would put blinders on to love this wretched world! It is brainwashing in a very irresponsible way.
I could go on and on....but one thing is for sure...it is the epitome of lying to say that the mentally ill person is more knowledgeable and/or wise (or whatever is the opposite of naive) than the sane person. It sets a dangerous precedent. One that errs on the side of making it desirable to be mentall ill...for which one would any one rather be....A genius to have come up with a way to cope with mental illness in a derogatory way or one who was too stupid to know they were mentally ill and so they were happy? To me the whole mentality is just absurd.
LOL...I am hijacking my own thread but what the hell....if ya can't beat em, join em!
Anyway...a little comic relief can be a good thing!
