Ah. In that time Norway was very poor, not much money, and we were ruled by damn Danes, greedy bastards, and it was before technology allowed things to accelerate in the farm land. People went to the US to get land for themselves, hoping that they would be rich and get new and better prospects for the future. A few of them managed it, some died, some didn't make it, some returned, some stayed poor.bobevenson wrote: Well, my grandparents weren't all that content. These days it's usually the other way, however, there's not much emigration either to or from the US and Norway these days. It seems impossible to find updated statistics, but of what I found was that in 1996 some 300+ Norwegians emigrated to the united states. In 2011 the population of Americans in Norway increased by 800+. Since air flights have become cheaper and Norwegians a lot richer since 1996 these data aren't dependable, but these days it seems like everybody wants to come and live in Norway, of course an exaggeration, most people come because we have work and lots of money, but some also comes to genuinely settle down, among them especially Dutch people who we are renowned for their liberties (the excuse of these people are usually that there's a lot of space in Norway, while the Netherlands is quite tight) and they seem to becoming more and more each year. Including Americans, though you are not historically known to emigrate a lot. The US is after all a federation, and if you want change you just head over to the next state. In one state something legal, in another illegal, I don't really think you can speak for your country because your country doesn't really have enough of a central system, your liberties are equally dependant on the state for which you live in. I hear you need to be 18 or 20 or 21 years old just to have sex in your country, so what kind of liberty is that? Norway's 16, and it works very well here. I can drink alcohol at age 18, that you can't say about all of the US ^^
No. To argue liberties in such simplistic ways is just stupid, it is all relative, nothing straight forward, and people differ and so they make different laws to best regulate a society so that its inhabitants don't tear each other to parts. As long as you have the liberty of emigration and people respect your values as long as they don't include destroying others and their values I think it is just a matter of taste and you'll be able to freely choose where and how to live.

Problem is that the government, at least initially is supposed to, represent society. Their job is to make you not tear your neighbour to parts, but live in as much harmony as possible. Now considering what you've stated here elsewhere it seems to me you of all need a real government given that you want to make so much conflict over something as void of value as the right to burn a book to dishonour other people.bobevenson wrote: Nobody owns the Earth, and everyone should be able to live anywhere free of government oppression.
If you sit in a chilly room and need wood to work the fire then please burn as many Qurans as you want, but don't show it up into peoples faces just to irritate, dishonour and hurt their feelings. I can't see what kind of society you want to live in, it would be hell on Earth, everybody disrespecting each other and killing and fighting constantly because their philosophy is not to care ^^

Who is going to guarantee your security?
What happens when you want to live in the same place as someone else?
What happens when the crops you planted get eaten by someone else?

The only proper function of government is social integration, not to oppress people or allow others to oppress people. Freedom of expression is sacrosanct, regardless of whether it offends others or not.

Like I said, you don't make any sense at all. Why not try saying something without your stupid brain garbling it all up. In other words, speak English, asshole!chaz wyman wrote:

The fault is with your failure to understand plain English and to continue a thought for more than 3 seconds.bobevenson wrote:Like I said, you don't make any sense at all. Have you ever tried to use a couple of sentences in plain English to express a thought rather than a hodgepodge of half-thoughts in a single ungrammatical one?bobevenson wrote:Like I said, you don't make any sense at all. Bob's thread is to encourage 'People A' to get together to provoke 'People B' in order to get them to retaliate (using their freedom Bob loves so much) and thus exploiting this opportunity he wishes to distinguish or exterminate the rights of 'People B' and/or 'People B' in their entirety using illegal and immoral violence.
Doesn't the purpose of your mission seem a little hypocritical and fruitless, Bob? Given that you believe in freedom yet preach hostility and ignorance? For one you have attacked those who believe differently to you (basically) and also , amazingly enough, attacked the basis of the language you speak. Most of the words used by English people are the same as used by Americans, if this wasn't true you would not be able to read this sentence right now! Also, it is possible for Chaz to be an American citizen AND to be of English heritage, is it not? Use your head.
You truly are rushing into waters that are way out of your depth, on paper Britain and other countries within the EU are victims to monarchy amongst other 'unconstitutional' laws, but friend, we are no less free. Your Bill of Rights is cited when applicable, but ignored when necessary by politicians and corporate figures. Your constitution is the toilet paper of empires, ask some of the famous war criminals that have been taking you and your ignorant kind for a ride over the years. Start with Henry Kissinger, for one.
Read a book, one that has preferably not been written by one of the spin doctors you no doubt love so much!

it seems Bob has no viable concept of freedom. Freedom can only be maintained when it is executed responsibly. Bob is the kind of person that thinks it is okay to run into a crowded theatre and shout FIRE!
Obviously there have to be limits.
