"Where the Hell are you Simon?"

How about The Battle of Britain.

It's long, but not boring, has a good narrative, great actors. It was especially exciting to have a film with an intermission in those days, especially when all you could think of was a regret that it was already half done, but could not wait to see the rest.

For its time it was primo on special affects. After seeing all those black & white war films the colour of this one had a sort of immediacy, ,with the uniform blue and yellows being particularly vivid. The white cliffs on the sea; green of the fields and the blue of the sky in my own neck of the woods; Spitfires and Messerschmits; Hurricanes and Heinkels with Stukas thrown in for good measure - with all that destruction, shouting and shooting along with Susanna York's stocking tops what more could a 9 year old boy ask from a day at the cinema?

One gets older and wiser and sees the historical truth beyond the jingoism but still one can't help being in the moment of a great film.

Dance with a Stranger 1985

A true story about Ruth Ellis who was the last woman to be executed in the United Kingdom.

Miranda Richardson (Ruth Ellis), she is amazing in this role and Rupert Everett's (David Blakely) performance is equally effective.

A rather morbid film, but nevertheless captures human nature at is most obssessive.
