Moderator approval on every post?

is this really necessary and if so why does it take so long?
Hiya. No, that isn't necessary. Only the first posting by a new member of the forum has to be approved by one of the moderators. This is a necessary measure to keep out spam postings.
However, you can't make any postings until that first posting has been approved.
