Advertising. What is it? What does it do?

I found this and it rekindled thoughts on what exactly is advertising and should we accept it so passively.

When I say 'transform' i said it with irony. The object themselves are not in any sense transformed, but yes, people's perceptions of the objects are transformed and thus people are transformedPluto wrote:It transforms things, yes, but it also transforms people.

Well, whatever communicates. It's pretty straight forward. Is there a link with the death of god and the rise of celebrity culture. Where's the book? These are the thoughts that may come out of such a problematic 'pseudo statement.'
