I think you just too damned lazy to think about what you are saying. I believe that people who spread the most virulent STD in history, is not even civil, so why be civil to the uncivil?

The thing about philosophy forums is that they attract two very very different sorts of people, the first set are in some way and to some extent interested in philosophy as an activity. A slight majority of those people are relatively sane, if this includes you, then you are now a member of staff at a mad house.

The other main group of people you will encounter are nutters of some sort. A proportion are simply interested in arguing and pick on philosophy sites as a place where arguing happens. In itself this is usually harmless, but you will encounter some who want to have the angriest possible arguments every day due to some sort of personality disorder or some other compulsion to experience anger as often as possible. But a much larger proportion of these benighted souls are here not to fight, but to be discovered as great geniuses, or in some cases prophets.

Phil is an unfortunate case in particular as he apparently falls into both of those camps. He starts multiple new threads every day about his important his insights into geometry and "grammar", when nobody from the magazine picked up on his work, he started marketing it as "unpublished articles", the magazine publisher did notice, and asked him to stop. As you can see, he also likes to start a truly vituperous fight every day as well.

Your role in all of this, assuming you are among the sane, is to keep the dysfunctional members of the community occupied for a while now and then. This probably gives some poor bastard who has to look after Phil a bit of downtime to look after their own needs for a little while. You are doing God's work.
