substance of experience...

Socrates has as much substance as any other character in stories

does the author of the stories, once dead, have as much substance as the characters?

of course this removes personal identity as the identity of the character/author is nothing more than the agreed upon description

will Descartes' cogito be denied as Rene is naught more than a name on a tombstone?

I am who I say I am, until I cannot say; then I become who others say I was
