A mind is the product of a living brain. We are a mind. A mind is potentially the most powerful life support system possible.
Every form of life is composed of a number of life support systems, life, the animated, have to work for a living. Each specific life support system, is a system with a well-defined, biologically-determined, job to perform. Every life support system has its own particular work to do and no life support system can do the work of another.
So, if we are a mind, potentially the most powerful life support system possible, what is our job that no other can do? It is quite easy to figure out.
By now, if you have sufficient intelligence, you have figured out that all a mind can do is process information. We process information in order to determine our responses, our behavior towards the mind’s environment. By definition, that behavior is to benefit us, i.e., maintain and promote our life.
Specifically, what is information processing? Information processing is the ability to read information, and that what is given to either produce something beneficial with it, or ignore it because we have determined that it is not useful. What we find useful we respond to it, or we put it in storage for potential future use.
In the short of it, we read, process and write. The ability to read, comprehend, and act on information to maintain and promote life, or again, in order for salvation, is called literacy.
We process all information as Plato noted, as intimated in the Bible, and exampled globally by the computer, using two, and only two concepts, which we call the parts of speech. As is the Universe, so too any particular thing in the Universe, and this affords us the ability to define any thing using two, and only two parts of speech. In a metaphor, all we have to learn is to mimic the parts of speech shown to us, by flipping a switch to either on or off. Under all the fancy narrative, that is what an I.Q. test amounts to. Perceiving one of two states, to mimic it with our own behavior such that our behavior is actually a benefit to us.
Thus, by admission, we use binary to image the Universe, i.e., to construct virtual models which we manipulate, if we are doing it right, to our advantage. We will either use a product of virtualization or we will discard it. We discard more models than we accept. The products of modeling range from the absurd to the rational and they are applied either to ourselves or to our environment for endless reasons.
By admission, all information is derived from the Universe.
By recognition, we are a life support system.
By binary recursion, from the Universe to the parts of speech all is created in order to recognize and use it for survival.
We have the literal facts; now how can these literal facts be use to render the meaning of metaphor? A functional mind is able to use both parts of speech, i.e., construct identities with them. These two identities are called arithmetic, for the literal, and geometric, or proportional, for the metaphorical. Taking the factual givens, how do we process the following statements:
Genesis
And God said; Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.
So, God created man in his [own] image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
And God blessed them, and God said unto them; Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.
Therefore, by our givens, how may this passage be understood?
God spoke the universe into existence. How many parts are there to God? As given, two, metaphorically as male and female, which is just like the definition of a thing, a container and the contained. What, by this is our function and purpose, exactly the same as one particular life support system, to be the dominate species on the planet in order to maintain and promote life.
There is another, and very important statement being made, a question which, if we are intelligent enough ask. Are we Man? Man is defined to be in the image of God, yet, mentally, we are not yet able to use our two givens to process information in accordance with the truth of things, therefore, by definition, we are not yet Man.
Throughout Genesis, we are informed by the phrase, the day that God created, how the story of man’s creation in the book is parsed and then repeated.
Gen 5:1 This [is] the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;
Gen 5:2 Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.
The Book affords us an example of metaphorical recursion, and done recursively over long periods of time. In short, it could not have originated by human hands. All of it is derived from simple biological fact put into metaphor. No one in human history has even attempted such a project because no one in history has had sufficient intelligence to do so.
This is the book, i.e., called the Bible, is stated explicitly a book outlining the creation of mankind, and by now, one should understand the work is highly metaphorical.
Even in Revelation, the purpose of man’s creation is put very explicitly:
Revelation 11:18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou should give reward unto the servants, the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear your name, small and great; and should destroy them which destroy the earth.
When a life support system cannot do its job, by definition, we are dead. Our job is our life. We are either a life support system or we are not. How do we change from being a destroyer, to a life support system? The answer is obvious, by learning how to do our own work, the work we are biologically designed to do.
From the front of the Book to the back, we are designed to become a prophet and savior of life through our ability to process information.
Why metaphor?
As exampled, and as Plato noted, literal processing can be done by most people, however, metaphor is use to apply what we literally have known and turn it into a grammatical application in order to do our own work. In short, it takes a higher level of intelligence to rightly apply our knowledge so that what we do, actually accomplishes our job as a life support system.
Our level of intelligence is always commensurate with our behavior to a defined purpose.
Today, there does not exist a socially correct concept of literacy itself; which denotes that we are still uncivilized savages towards the environment, and towards our biologically defined job.
The Bible examples a simple truth. Our environment, over which we maintain and promote life, will one day include other worlds. Guided evolution is one way to comprehend our biologically defined job. Such is how far one can get a dim view of where we are going. Someday, we will tend gardens light years away.
