US West Coast Health Alliance against CDC

Good to see some signs of sanity in reaction to the turmoil being wrought upon the CDC. Hopefully other states will do the same.

Why should medical science be overridden by political ideology? How can anyone reasonably continue to support this administration?
Responding to the federal government’s shifting guidance on vaccines and turmoil at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, health officials in California, Oregon, and Washington state have formed a new West Coast Health Alliance.

The alliance's goal is to "ensure residents remain protected by science, not politics," according to a joint announcement on Sept. 3 from California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek, and Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson.

The three Democratic governors said the alliance will provide recommendations to residents on immunizations and ensure the public gets credible information on vaccine safety and efficacy. The governors called the partnership a unified response to what they called the Trump administration’s "destruction" of the CDC, the federal agency responsible for vaccine guidance.

"President Trump’s mass firing of CDC doctors and scientists – and his blatant politicization of the agency – is a direct assault on the health and safety of the American people," the governors said in a statement. "The CDC has become a political tool that increasingly peddles ideology instead of science, ideology that will lead to severe health consequences. California, Oregon, and Washington will not allow the people of our states to be put at risk."

The following lends perspective to the above:
Today, many people are wondering if they will be able to get vaccinated at all, particularly against COVID, after changes to vaccine guidance by the Trump administration.

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a former anti-vaccine advocate who has spread misinformation about vaccines and autism, has led several U.S. policy and personnel changes so far, including more narrow national recommendations for who should get a COVID booster, firing and replacing a panel of health experts who advise the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on vaccines and reportedly firing CDC Director Susan Monarez over disagreements about vaccine science.
Kennedy’s statements and actions are a far cry from U.S. health policy a year ago, when anyone aged 6 months or older could get vaccinated against COVID, which was the 10th leading cause of death in August 2024, according to provisional data from the federal government. People are now reeling from “the culture shock,” said Dr. Georges Benjamin, executive director of the American Public Health Association.

Updated COVID vaccines will be available this fall after the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices meets on Sept. 18, but the Trump administration has erected more barriers for healthy children and adults to access that protection, Benjamin said.

Who is eligible to get vaccinated against COVID?

The Food and Drug Administration last week announced that people who qualify to receive the COVID vaccine this season include :
• Those aged 65 or older
• Those 6 months or older and have at least one high-risk health condition
“This is a big departure from past years, and it is quite unusual for the FDA to restrict a vaccine this way,” epidemiologist Katelyn Jetelina told PBS News Hour’s Amna Nawaz.

These recommendations from the Trump administration contradict guidance from medical societies, such as the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, which have recommended COVID vaccines for children who are 6 months or older and for pregnant people.

It's so cute the way Americans use specifically American initialisms on here and just assume that everyone knows what they mean...

If you'd read the following from the OP, you'd know to what CDC refers:
Responding to the federal government’s shifting guidance on vaccines and turmoil at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, health officials in California, Oregon, and Washington state have formed a new West Coast Health Alliance.
Or was it that you failed to understand "US"?

Regardless, as usual you don't put much, if any, thought before formulating your opinions/beliefs. Do you also find that "so cute"?

Thus far, both of your responses have been of a trolling nature. Low quality trolling at that. In my experience, when you aren't trolling, you're spewing bigotry. At least you're consistent.

If you haven't figured it out, you aren't part of the intended audience.

This is the trouble when idiots use words to mean anything they want them to mean (and at the same time are completely incapable of defining them).

'Bigot' actually means someone who is excessively religious but hypocritical. There are a few of those on here, and there are certainly a lot of hypocrites.
Of course, Americans have to butcher everything to do with language, so they just call anyone they disagree with whose brain hasn't fallen out of their head a 'bigot'. Biology? 'BIGOT'! Historical facts? BIGOT!

In American English usage, "bigot" NOT restricted to religious intolerance. You can accuse us of butchering language all you want, but "correct usage" of a word is how most of the language speakers use it.

You do like to live dangerously don't you? There is no such thing as 'American English'. The language is called English. And how do 'most language speakers' use it? Pray tell. So 'bigot' means 'anyone who says something I don't like and can't argue with'. Glad that's sorted. As a matter of fact the word now has no meaning at all, thanks to illiterate, self-serving dipshits who have misused and abused it by throwing it around like confetti to silence anyone who disagrees with them. Saves the effort of actually constructing an argument.
Everyone knows Americans are incapable of thinking about anything except in terms of which half of the political spectrum they fall into.
And don't even think about quoting your Meriam-Webster McDikshinry to me. Most of what you write is illegible.

You must love fighting with your spell checker. Seriously, if you do not know that languages have dialects, can have fun when traveling.

My two favorites:
This side: We were gathered at a friends house when there was a knock on the door. Surprise, an acquaintance from your side. To the lady of the house, "I'm in town unexpectedly, no chance to call (pre cell phone days) but figured you'd be here tonight so just came out to knock you up" DEAD SILENCE IN ROOM. "Oh darned, that's one of those things that means something different over here, isn't it."

Your side: A friend over there in a pub with friends. Realizing it was late to get back to the hotel for next day's touring stood up and asked "I need a ride. Can somebody here give me a ride." Her friends jumped up "She means a lift. She means a lift."

It has nothing to do with 'dialects' or is that yet another word that illiterate Americans have hijacked and rendered worthless? You are misusing it right now  Do the Scots go around saying 'I write in 'Scottish English''? It's only Americans who do that because they are arrogant *******. Even 'Google' is an arrogant ******, always bringing up obnoxious 'American spelling' in huge lettering, with tiny correct spelling underneath (if it's there at all).
Word meanings are not subjective. If they were then there would be no point in language.

Not sure why you've bought into AF's nonsense in any part. Bigots are not rational. As such, all their bigoted claims should be viewed with extreme skepticism.

From the Cambridge Advanced Lerner's Dictionary which is a British publication:
bigotry
noun [ U ] disapproving

the fact of having and expressing strong, unreasonable beliefs and disliking other people who have different beliefs or a different way of life

https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictio ... sh/bigotry
In the 17th century, bigotry originally referred only to religion, the word changed its meaning over time in both the UK and the US. Languages evolve. Words evolve.

How exactly am I a 'bigot', American genius? Please quote, with backup facts.
Word meanings evolve, yes, but that doesn't mean losing all meaning altogether, and if they do then they are obsolete and no longer fit for use.

By the "the fact of [your] having and expressing strong, unreasonable beliefs and disliking other people who have different beliefs or a different way of life". Based on this thread, evidently Americans can also be added to the list.

The word 'bigot' may not refer exclusively to religious hypocrisy but hypocrisy will last for as long as humans. People used to understand nuance and subtlety--until Americans came along...
