Fear of men. Seems quite rational to me when you consider how dangerous they are. According to a recent survey, most women would rather encounter a bear in the woods than a man.

The survey as to whether they'd prefer to encounter a bear in their bed than a man is quite the opposite results.

That would depend on if the man was expected and welcome or not. If not, then the result would be similar to a woman finding an unexpected bear in her bed--most likely death for the woman, although initial rape and torture would probably not come from the bear.
