Slow and crashing forum

I'm no 'techy', but could it be that this forum is just 'full' after all these years? It has thousands of members (by my calculation nearly 14K) most of whom have never made a single comment, and threads going back to 2007, many of which are full of large photos and gifs.
Perhaps not 'bot sabotage' after all, but simply in need of a good spring clean?

That's odd. It did for me only a couple of days ago. Getting onto it is like getting into Fort Knox. I can only make about two comments at the most before it signs me out and I get a 'site can't be reached' notification. Either that or I have to 'verify I'm human'. That gets pretty tedious after the umpteenth time.
It can't just be a 'browser' issue. You know perfectly well the forum has been 'crashing' for a while now--and bot attacks have been the main suspect.

Well, are other sites loading as normal?
Honestly, since the human test this site is working dandy for me. *extremely fast on loading and posting.

C'mon ya ol' bat. FFS. I have no idea what she's doing, probably rebooting the kettle or something.
I wanna go home Baz, it's been a long day - wots this daft ol' dinosaur doing? - evolving a brain i hope.
"I HEARD THAT!"
Oh, sorry madam. Is the problem resolved?
"NO! What do you mean reboot the computer? I've been kicking it for 5 minutes and still the same problem"
Madam, does your husband have steel cap work boots?
"Yes, he does"
Is your husband home?
"No he isn't"
Good. Place the boots on your feet.
"Yes"
Now, see the dangly wire from the thing that you are holding up to your ear?
"Yes"
It connects to a beige base, with a dial on it, I want you to reboot that base as hard as you can..
"OK, hang on" BANG CLICK
Phew, daft ol bat hung up on me...I think I'll pick up some beers on the way home.
..the end of a day in the Life of Brian.

There's a reason why so-called computer nerds are always male. FAR more confidence than ability. I'm always amazed when I find I know more about 'tech' stuff than they do. They just pretend to know everything (and probably actually believe it). Odious little condescending incel creeps.
What makes males so confident, even when they have absolutely NOTHING to be confident ABOUT?
