The Law of Identity Requires Paradox

If the LI occurs through differing variations that stand apart, for if it did not it would not be a universal law, and these variations are connected through the LI, does the LI rely on the absence of unity between things to result in a unity between things thus is grounded in paradox as things are equal to themselves by their differences?
