Which christians are u talking about... the peasants or the ruling class kings and their philosopher yes-men?
If the former, the statement is made to further strengthen and bolster the slave's revenge against the ruling class... something he had to do. The slave posits an authority above and over his master to make the master paranoid, uncertain, remorseful, etc. He can't beat his master, but god can.
If the latter, the statement represents the ruling class's effort to convince the slave that the state, as it exists, is sanctioned by god and that the master class has a right to rule.
Both parties use the one god concept to try and destroy each other, more or less. Or rather the master class doesn't want to destroy the slaves (becuz it can't exist without the slaves) but make them behave so they can be more easily exploited.

I'm not a Christian though I did spend a couple of years in a Christian school, but I'll give my take.
1) This is a monotheistic deity or a human sort of channeling what he thinks is one saying that the polytheisms are wrong.
2) It's connected to the relationship between Jews and God and like saying, it's me, none of the other deities are for you anymore. And really there is only me, the big kahuna.
3) It's also saying don't put anything above me: money, sex, material things, whatever. God is the most important thing. No idolatry.
So, no competing religions/deities, but rather this one.
No human desires prioritzed above god.

From Exodus it means, thou shalt have no other gods ...
before me. (You left the last part out.)

I’d like to take just a second and make this about me.
Walker, your experience is your being - and your being simply cannot possibly precede you.

So death to all ideals and idols then.

Neither.
Questions can only arise to the sense of a separate self.
For a separate self, for whom a universe was before a direct experience of. This is an illusory perspective.
How could there be experience, such as of a universe - before - your experience - of?
Experience is now. God is now.
Before me, is to make this all about me, it’s presumption.
Aliveness is now, your very being.

All non-christian ideals and any idols other than Yahweh or the Father (of Jesus, or the Holy Ghost, or sort of Mary, maybe a few saints)

Did you know accelafine. I see dead people.
I also see straight through you accelafine. I see straight through all people posting at this forum to be the pure being that they truly are. No matter what the world convinced them of, they are perfect and whole.
Just be transparent, your pure and real self. Which is love.
Which is the real seer, the one looking ...or the one looked upon, or are they both the same one love dreaming difference where there is none?

“Before me,” references dualistic worship rather than the worship of, and clinging to, conceptual oneness.
