The Universe.

To me:
When, and if, the word 'Universe' is meaning or referring to everything, totality, all-there-is, then the Universe can only ever exist infinitely and eternally.
To be able to understand this, imagine that you were on any planet, now what would be between that planet and the next object would be a space.
When, and if, the word 'space' is meaning or referring to a distance between and surrounding physical matter, then 'space' is nothing more than just that distance between and around physical matter.
When, and if, the word 'matter' is meaning or referring to a physical thing, then 'matter' is nothing more than just physicality, itself.
The Universe, fundamentally, is made up of or consists of matter, space, and energy also.
From the smallest particles of matter to the largest objects of matter, there is space between them, and surrounding them. If there was no space, then there would not be two separate objects nor two separate particles. There would only be one object or particle of matter, only.
At the smallest scale, the particle free space between matter is what allows matter to always be able to move about, absolutely freely. That is; until matter interacts with itself. But, from this scale up to the largest scale there is always matter surrounded by and separated by space. Space at all scale size of matter is the exact same and what allows matter of all and any size to just keep moving about.
Now, to visualize how the Universe, Itself, is infinite, visualize that you are on the further planet that you can imagine. Between that planet and the next planet, star, moon, or object there is just space, with the only thing distinguishing space differently is the length between objects. No matter which way you looked there would just be space between you and the next objects, if any. For you might look in one direction and there are no observable objects, but what you will also notice is there is absolutely nothing distinguishable between one area of distance from another. The only boundary in the Universe is the one between matter and the matter free space. This applies no matter where 'an observer' is anywhere in the Universe. Imagine now that you are looking out in one direction in a darkened sky and there is not an object anywhere to be seen, even with the best telescopes. What this does not mean is that there are no objects or stars out there, this just means that if there are any they could be just so far away that light from them has completely diminished before it has reached you. For as far as you could imagine there could be more matter and space, or just space alone. But, what can be clearly seen and visualized is that there is no distinguishable boundary surrounding any area of the Universe, Itself. For even if one did come across some sort of claimed boundary, then the space between the furthest objects out is still matter free with absolutely nothing distinguishable in all directions. However, some might say when they looked out they visualized a boundary or a wall of some sort. Now, no matter what that physical boundary was made up of it would have to be of a certain thickness, and no matter how thick that was, there has to be another side to it, of which would be infinite in length. Or, some might say that they could not visualize the thickness of the boundary wall, which it does not matter because even if the wall was infinitely thick on the other side, then no matter what is, it is all still a part of the Universe, Itself.
To see how the Universe is eternal, remember when you were visualizing being on the furthest objects imaginable of the Universe and even if there are unobservable objects out further for a particular distance imagine that if all of them were let us say swallowed up a black hole if one likes for an example, and thus were being contracted together and were squeezed into an infinite compression of matter. So, this means that there is no space between matter anymore and just one solitary singular particle of matter only now, let us call 'this' singularity. Now, what is existing is, still, space and matter, just now in an infinite area of space that is surrounding a single piece of matter, only, of any size.
In essence 'now' there is nothing actually happening, but only because the only relative thing there is here is the distinction, still, between matter and space, only.
When, and if, the word 'time' means or refers to the taking of measurements or the measuring of duration between perceived events, then 'time' can only take place or happen when matter is moving about.
'Now', while the Universe is in this singularity phase even if the singularity was moving there would be no way to tell. As there is absolutely no other matter for the singularity to be relative to. This could be happening and occurring for an unfathomable amount of duration, relative to what we are used to on earth, while we are visualizing this. Until that, was perceived singular piece, collides or interacts with another infinitely compressed singular piece of matter, causing a big bang and expanding out, again or for the first time. What had been happening and occurring and the size and shape of the still always two things of matter and space was still always the Universe, Itself.
The expansion of matter, which is happening and occurring 'now' has no resistance at all, again until matter collides and interacts with itself, but the matter just keeps expanding out from the big bang impact zone. As space was and is always particle or matter free there is no resistance for matter to just keep moving out and about. Space, which was surrounding the singularity or surrounding the two particles of infinitely compressed matter, had to have existed there also for matter to expand.
Matter cannot just come into existence from nothing.
Until this is shown how it could even be just logically possible, and then shown how it could then be physically possible.
Matter and space have to always be existing, in one way, shape, or form.
What I was illustrating and showing here was an extreme example of a black hole and a more than imaginable amount of matter. However, if this was downsized to a lot less size of a black hole and matter getting swallowed up and squeezed together infinitely, which just means with no space within anymore, then just when the hole is full and/or the hole closes up this, itself, might set of some sort of reaction which causes that singularity, out of countless other to start expanding with a big bang, with all of those bangs being of differing sizes, differing amounts of matter, and/or differing rates of expansion. But, which all-of-this is happening and occurring, always, in this one and only Universe.
Which means that the Universe is not just infinite, but eternal as well.
