one aspect of philosophy...

one of the questions faced by philosophy and philosophers..
is this question of finitude... we are finite beings, with finite
capabilities, with finite intellect and senses...
with such limitations, I don't see how we human beings can
get to some sort of final answers offered by metaphysical concerns
or first principles... finite beings can only have finite answers...
we cannot have answers that extend beyond our capabilities....
the answers of metaphysics or the absolute or first principles
are not available to us finite beings...
So, what is left for us to work out?
given our finite capabilities and possibilities,
we cannot reach anything outside of or beyond us...
there may be a god and there may be a metaphysical reality
somewhere out there, but we have no way of ever getting there...
we are limited beings, let us work with that... instead of
creating something that lays outside of the realm of possibilities...
let us work with what we got... and what do we got?
we have limitations, we are limited beings...we are born,
we age, we get injured, and we get diseases and then we grow
old and die...the human existence is full of suffering...the Buddha
said that 2500 years ago... and he is still right....
suffering is the cost of being alive... the price as it were for living...
no suffering means no life... accept it and move on....
I will die.. that is the price of admittance to life...
it is no different than puberty or old age or being born...
all aspect of existence we are going to face if we live long enough...
I was born with a hearing loss, and today I am deaf... I could wail
and whine about the unfairness of life, but why? my initial hearing loss
was accidental, a matter of chance... as much of our existence is really
a matter of chance...and this is the second aspect of existence...
that we have the laws of science, of physics, of evolution, of
thermodynamics, of gravity... and we cannot do anything about these
''LAWS" OR RULES either... I cannot fly by myself, I cannot become
a dog, I cannot violate the rules of evolution or physics,
or thermodynamics...anymore than I can violate the rules of existence..
that we are going to suffer and grow old and one day, die....
growing old is just a scientific fact hard at work, entropy...
that we go from order to disorder... we go from order to chaos...
that is the nature of existence, from the ant to the largest galaxy
in the sky... we are all subject to the laws of entropy...
we go from order to disorder... old age is simply entropy
working on us...after years of use the family chair falls apart,
that is entropy...my cat is 18 and going through the end of life stage...
that is entropy...
philosophy must engage with the facts of existence, in which we
grow old and we suffer and we die, all from the scientific law
of entropy...what free choice we have, comes in the in-between
the laws of physics and evolution and gravity...gravity, physics,
evolution does not offer us any choices, any freedom to act or
any choice...
what we must work with is the possibilities of being human...
we have possibilities like travel and gaining knowledge and
learning a new language, we can become our possibilities...
I am engaged in my possibility of becoming a great philosopher...
I may or may not become one, but that doesn't stop me from trying...
we have choices and possibilities within our existence, but we
must understand that the laws/rules of physics, gravity,
evolution force us to suffer and grow old and finally die...
we have no choice... and perhaps that is the lessons of philosophy,
to learn what is possible for us in-between the rules and laws of
gravity and physics...laws/rules we cannot violate...
