Nothing makes sense

For the discussion of all things philosophical.

I so agree. Life can be wonderful once you realise how ridiculous it is.
Sorry to hear that it's ridiculous for you right now, Harbal. Life doesn't need to be ridiculous and it shouldn't be in my book (but I'm "insane" of course). It can be better for everyone if industry would concentrate on things to sustain and heal people instead of spending so much on things to kill us.
Don't be sorry, Gary, I wouldn't have it any other way. I agree that you have to take some things seriously, to a certain extent, just to function in society, but I highly recommend keeping them to an absolute minimum. There is a funny side to most things, and I believe it's well worth the effort to find it.Gary Childress wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 7:42 pmSorry to hear that it's ridiculous for you right now, Harbal. Did you miss the part where he said it's wonderful?Gary Childress wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 7:42 pmSorry to hear that it's ridiculous for you right now, Harbal. I appreciate that you weather through but to be honest, from my perspective, militarism is sucking a lot of resources away from other things humanity should be doing. EVERYONE suffers because of that. Even I have to suffer because I'm considered "insane" because I have too much conscience whereas others seem to have almost none at all and those who have almost none at all are rewarded with military contracts and other wonderful things that doctors or scientists researching cures for disease or better ways of maintaining those living on Earth could use to do their thing. We ALL SUFFER to some degree under those circumstances, ultimately even those profiting off of war do so. But what are we to do if China and Russia are diverting their resources to armies? The world needs to cool down and retool its industries. Of course, that's easier said than done. I assume accomplishing such a task would begin with everyone recognizing that it's a problem first. Then maybe people can come together and figure out a way to best accomplish that goal. But it requires cooperation. If the God of the Bible (who created division in us to prevent the building of the Tower of Babel) will allow us to all understand each other better, then maybe we could all cooperate in ways that would help humanity more. What do I know, though?Harbal wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 7:49 pmDon't be sorry, Gary, I wouldn't have it any other way. Yes, I did miss it.Flannel Jesus wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 7:50 pmDid you miss the part where he said it's wonderful?Gary Childress wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 7:42 pmSorry to hear that it's ridiculous for you right now, Harbal. If I could wave a wand, or sign a piece of paper, to stop people hurting one another, I would do it. I honestly do sympathise with the victims of war, and corporate greed and immorality, but I don't worry about it. I see very little, if any, of it in my everyday life, and I can't really do anything about it anyway. I really don't pay much attention to what's happening out in the world, so it doesn't bother me much. I've never read newspapers, and I haven't had a television for about ten years, and so hardly ever hear the news. I'm sure there all sorts of horrible things going on all over the place, but I don't go out of my way to find out about them. And all this is why what you have written above bemuses me a little.Gary Childress wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 7:58 pm

Well, obviously there's no such piece of paper out there to sign and if there are any magic wands around I haven't seen them. Can't say that makes me feel any better, though. Certainly, the way I feel is no one else's problem. Beggars can't be choosers. I guess I pretty much get what there is to get. Such is life. Would be nice to see a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine war come about, and if that can't happen, then at the very least it would be nice if the war doesn't expand into something larger and/or worse.Harbal wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 8:36 pmIf I could wave a wand, or sign a piece of paper, to stop people hurting one another, I would do it. Well if you can do something about it, I suppose you ought to, but if you can't, why even think about it?Gary Childress wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 9:01 pm Would be nice to see a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine war come about, and if that can't happen, then at the very least it would be nice if the war doesn't expand into something larger and/or worse.
How do I not think about what is going on in Ukraine right now? It's all over the news media. Journalists are making all kinds of articles and comments about it regarding just about anything and everything that can be said about it. It's kind of difficult to block it out of my mind. What else should I be doing, than keeping up with what is going on in the world around me? I guess I could do that, just change my landing page for my web browser to something other than the news. To me, it just feels like I'd be doing the equivalent of holding my ears, blocking my eyes and saying "lalalala".Harbal wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 9:11 pmWell if you can do something about it, I suppose you ought to, but if you can't, why even think about it?Gary Childress wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 9:01 pm Would be nice to see a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine war come about, and if that can't happen, then at the very least it would be nice if the war doesn't expand into something larger and/or worse.
