So today ALex Jones was fined a cool $1billion

Does this mean that other Fake News people are going to have to STFU? Or is the American obsession with So-called "free speech" going to bugger up the process?

Seriously tho, fifty million dollars to a couple parents who lost a kid a decade ago is a bit much. You'll hear the democrat pundits say 'no amount of money can heal the wounds those families suffered yada yada yada' when reporting on the Jones verdict... but that's a buncha bologna. Believe me, those parents are long past mourning their child's death, and when that dad dude started crying and buried his face in his hands, what he wasn't thinking wuz 'oh thank God justice is served' but 'holy shit are we about to go on a sirius cruise, Mildred.'

The degree of compensation has to reflect the degree of harm and trauma.
And the ability to pay.
I would imagine that in this case also the judgement is designed to deter Jones from his dangerous rantings in future.

If there are 'consequences' then it's not 'free speech'. You might as well say that the Nazis had 'free speech'. You could say what you like, but the 'consequence' was death. What Jones does isn't 'free speech'. It's an abuse of the term. Americans are very 'picky' about what they call 'free speech'. Julian Assange has been tortured for years for exposing America's and Britain's atrocities in the ME.
