Profit and Loss
There is a cynical view of commerce. That when goods are bought and sold, the seller makes a profit, therefore the buyer makes a loss. Those who have will have more and those who do not will have less. But that relates to a static body of goods and is a complete travesty. Commerce should profit everyone fairly.
Commerce involves the growing of crops and the making of goods. If successful, there are therefore food and goods that did not previously exist, and which may be used for the benefit of everyone.
There is an exchange of goods between different sets of producers, which includes services, and should profit everyone.
This can be perverted so that goods are made by the ‘owners’ of resources who then make all the profit, and minimise what others are given.
Either a demagogue owns everything in society; individuals own everything for themselves; or the community as such owns everything.
