Art may have started out as imitation and then ideology (apparently according to Danto), however, I think the only way anyone can speak of art coming to an "end" is when the end of humanity actually comes. At that point, the prevailing message in art will likely be existential finality and grappling with it on the most fundamental, universal, and rawest of terms. I don't think we've sincerely reached that point quite yet.
